PALE FACES.
BY SOME THOrOHT TO IH'.N'OTK
refinement.
"What a mistake!" said a member
of Knight's Pharmacy Cos. "In place
of refinement pale faces denote dis
ease.
"A bloodless face indicates impov
erished blood pure and simple.
"What is the result? A weakened
oondition of the entire system, the de
velopment of humors, disfiguring
eruptions and finally a general col
lapse.
"We wish your paper would tell
every pale man. woman and child;
yes, and ever} feeble old person, that
we are so sure that our famous cod
liver oil preparation. Vinol (delicious
to taste, ar.d without oil) will make
rich red blood, create strength and re
store them to a normal condition, that
we will pay for all the Vinol they take
if it does not succeed.
"Why are we so sure? Simply be
cause we have seen it succeed so
nianv times that we now don’t believe
it ean fall. You see it contains in a
highly concentrated form all of the
vital principles of cod liver oil. with
out anv grease to upset the stomach.
We know that it is fresh and actually
does contain the fifty odd medicinal
curatives taken from fresh cods’ liv
ers. and ’it is the real thing,' as the
bovs say. We do not ask you to take
our word for it. but simply try it on
our guarantee." Knight's Pharmacy

lacy Says He Was Beaten by a Mob
at Wegener.
Columbia, S. C„ May I.—A. E. Lacy
arrived at Aiken to-day. having walk
ed twenty-five miles from Wagener.
and related that Friday night he was
•taken from the "lockup” in the town
of Wagener by a party of young white
men and brutally whipped. Lacy is a
journeyman printer. He admitted that
he was drinking Friday, but said that
lie remembered having given no cause
of offense. His body showed marks
of a severe beating.
Manchester Cloth Market.
Manchester, May I.—A more cheerful
tone prevailed in the cloth market dur
ing the past week and a moderate to
fair business was transacted, although
It was unevenly distributed.
There was a considerable turnover
for India, chiefly lighter and cheaper
fabrics. The China trade was dull and
there were few offers of sUples. There
were some offers for some Tots of goods
suitable for South America and the
Levant.
There was a better demand for
yarns, which resulted in a fair trade.
Crops from American cotton occupied
a somewhat improved position and
producers were less anxious for or
ders.
