CRUISER DENVER BACK
FROM HER TRIAL TRIP.
Newport News, Va., Sept. 28.—The
United States cruiser Denver returned
to-day from her final trip and test off
this coast, with the naval board of
Inspection and survey aboard.
The trial board left for Washington
to-night, where the report on the be
havior of the cruiser at sea will be
made.
Train Wrecker Can*ht.
Hoanoke, Va., Sept. 28.—William G.
Baldwin, president of the Railway
Special Agents of the United States and
Canada, with headquarters here, re
ceived a telegram to-day from the au
thorities at Danville. 111., which stated
that John Kennedy, the condemned
train wrecker, has been arrested at
that place. Kennedy escaped from the
Staunton, Va., jail several months ago
after having received the death sen
tence. The description given by the
Illinois authorities is almost complete.

PUBLIC SCHOOL NOTICE.
The Public Schools of the city of
Savannah and the county of Chatham
will be reopened on Monday. Oct. 3.
Cards of admission to the white
schools will be issued at Chatham
Academy Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, between
the hours of 9 and 1 o'clock.
Pupils who were in school at the
close in June, whether promoted or
not, will need no cards. Pupils who
attended school out of their district
last year must report to the school in
their own district, as they have al
ready been transferred, and such pu
pils will need no cards of transfer.
Pupils who have moved into anew
district since July 1. however, must
obtain transfer cards before Sept. SO.
Cards of admission to the East Broad
and the West Broad Street Colored
Schools will be issued at these
schools on Friday. Sept. 30, and cards
to the Maple and Duffy Street Colored
Schools will be issued at these schools
on Saturday, Oct. 1.
All pupils must he vaccinated.

that were used in the schools last
year and that have been displaced by
new adoptions may be exchanged for
the newly adopted books of the same
