VILLE AND ELSEWHERE.
Raleigh, N. C., Oct. 11, 190 L
Very much has been said and writ
ten in reference to "Wood Spirits of
Turpentine" within the last twelve
months —pro and con. The Pine Pelt
Construction Company is the owner
of the patents and the builder of
THE BKTHUNE WOOD DISTILL
ING APPARATUS AND PROCESS.
This company has erected and put
into operation during the past sum
mer three large and complete wood
distilling plants: The first for Capt.
Tift, at Tifton. Ga.; the second for
Mr. Thomas Dowling, at Live Oak.
Fla., and the third for Messrs. Gaibutt
A Donovan, at Lyons, Ga.
This company openly asserts that
with this apparatus and process ab
solutely pure spirits of turpentine is
made. It stands ready to PROVE
this assertion. This company asserts
and stahds ready to prove that the
goods manufactured by this apparatus
and process from either the dead
lightwood or saw mill slabs contain
less Impurities and foreign matter
than the average "gum spirits" sold
on the markets. Yet you tell us that
there "is no established market for
our goods." We are informed that
some of your number have gone so far
as to advise prospective builders of
our plants that they had "better go
slow, as there was no market for these
goods." We are further advised that
circular letters have been sent broad
cast over the country advising the
fieople to hold off from Investing In
his business.
If we make absolutely "pure spir
its of turpentine” why is there not a
market? It seems to us that there is
onlv one question to settle; i. e., “DO
WE MAKE PURE SPIRITS OF TUR
PENTINE WITH OUR APPARATUS
AND PROCESS?" We have come to
challenge you to a fair contest as to
this. We invite you to select an ex
pert chemist, and wo will select one.
Let these chemists visit one or more
of the plants mentioned above, take
samples to suit themselves, and PUT
THE GOODS TO EVERY TEST
KNOWN TO SCIENCE. If the two
selected cannot agree, let them call in
a third. If our goods are pronounced
to be NOT PURE SPIRITS OF TUR
PENTINE we will agree to go out of
the business of building plants. If
our goods are pronounced PURE
SPIRITS OF TURPENTINE you are
to give them place upon the markets
as pure spirits of turpentine, paying
for such the full market price for
"gum spirits.”
We have no reference to wood
spirits made on any other apparatus
or by any other process than ours.
If this is not a fair proposition, make
us a counter one, and let us lay aside
all selfishness. If any exists, and let us
give the people of our Southland an
opportunity to turn their waste into
money.
We make the above proposition In
good faith to the naval stores factors
as firms, consolidations and combines.
Respectfully,
THE PINE BELT CONSTRUCTION
