TRAIN LEFT TRACK
AND RODE THE TIES.
But Strauat tv Relajte Only One Per
aon Suffered Sear Atlanta'
Atlanta, Oct. 19.—The fast train on
the Georgia Railroad front Augusta to
Atlanta, at 5 o'clock this morning, was
derailed at Ingleside, nine miles from
Atlanta.
Every car on the train, including the
engine, left the tracks and ploughed
along the cross ties for more than
100 yards.
S. H. Ports, a negro postal clerk,
suffered a slight bruise on the head,
and, strange to say, was the only per
son on the train injured.
Engineer A. L. Palmour, who was
running the train stopped the engine
as soon as he felt the wheels leave the
tracks, and it was largely due to his
quick work that a horrible wreck was
averted.

KILLED AN OLD MAN AND GIRL.
A srgro*a Brutal A tint ins ion of the
Crime.
Starke, Fla., Oct. 19.—A negro known
as “Black Kid.” shot and killed two
other negroes one and a half miles
1 north of Laivtey, on the Seaboard Air
Line railroad yesterday. Kid managed
to escape, but was caught by Sheriff
Johns near LaWtey last night and
lodged in jail here. To-day in a pre
liminary examination before Judge
Gardner, he admitted the killing and
justified himself by claiming that the
negroes he killed were an old man and
a young girl. ' Kid’’ said he had been
keeping the girl in the south part of
the state and the old man took her
from him. and also ow’ed him some
money. He tried to collect the money
and to have the old man let the girl
come back, which they both refused to
do. so lie shot and killed them. Hu
was remanded to Jail without bail un
til next term of Circuit Court, which
meets in November.

Gciirgia Soldiers Said to Have Hone
Foraging and Bust Pay.
Atlanta, Oct, 19.—A claim for S3OO
has bqen made against the Second
Georgia Provisional Regiment which
was encamped al Thoroughfare, Va„
under the command of Col. Clifford L.
Anderson.
The War Department at Washington
has written the Adjutant General
about the matter, and it has been tak
en up with the officers of the regiment.
It is claimed that members of the
regiment on frequent foraging tours
made away with 100 chickens, ninety
turkeys, fifty bushels of corn, a lot of
apples, straw and other articles be
longing to farmers in that section.
The War Department says the claim
seems to be a just one. As those who
were responsible for the depredations
can hardly be located, it is probable the
officers of the regiment themselves will
make good the loss.
NEW HIM LI, IUX.I LATIONS.
Atlanta, Oct. 19. Copies of the, ne>v
military drill regulations for the infan
try have been received at the Adjutant
General s office, and will be forwarded
as soon as possible to the different
regimental, battalion and company
commanders throughout the state. The
new tactics have just been adopted by
the United States army, and will be
adopted by the state of Georgia as
soon as the - officers receive the copies
of the regulations.
Moultrie's Town Officers.
Moultrie, Ga,, Oct. 19.—At a meet
ing of the Town Council last night,
J. H. Scar boro was re-elected city
clerk, R. C. West chief of police and
city marshal, and J. D. McKenzie at

THE VALUE OF CHARCOAL.
Few People Know How I'.scfiil it is in
Preserving Health ami Beauty.
Nearly everybody knows that char
coal is the safest and most efficient
disinfectant and- purifier in nature, but
few realize its value when taken into
the human system for the same cleans
ing purpose.
Charcoal is a remedy that the more
you take of it the better; it is not
a drug at all, bqt simply absorbs
the gases and impurities, always pre
sent in the stomach and intestines and
carries them out of the system.
.Charcoal sweetens the breath after
smoking, drinking or after eating, on
ions and other odorous vegetables.
Charcoal effectually clears and im
proves the complexion, it whitens the
teeth upd .further acts as a natural
and eminently safe cathartic.
It absorbs the injurious gases which
collect in the stomach and bowels; it
disinfects the month and throat from
the poison of catarrh.
All druggists sell charcoal in one
form or, another, but probably the
best charcoal and the most for the
money is in Stuart's Charcoal Lozen
ges; they are composed of the finest
powdered Willow charcoal, and other
harmless antiseptics in tablet form or
rather in the form of large, pleasant
tasting lozenges, the charcoal being
mixed with honey.
The daily use of these lozenges will
soon tell in a much improved condi
tion of the general health, hetter com
plexion, sweeter breath and. purer
blood, and the beauty of it is, that
no possible harm can result from their
continued use, but on the contrary,
great benefit. - .
A Buffalo physician in speaking of
the benefits of charcoal, says: "I ad
vise Stuart's Charcoal Lozenges to all
patients suffering from gas in stom
ach and bowels, and to clear the com
plexion and purify the breath, mouth
and throat; 1 also believe the liver
is greatly benefited by the daily use
of them; they cost but twenty-five
cents a box at drug stores, and al
though in some sense a patent prep
aration, yet 1 believe I get more and
better charcoal In Stuart's Charcoal
Logenges than in any of the ordinary
charcoal ’tablets.”
