New York. Nov. I.—Wall street
found itself with a renewal of the in
ternational crisis on Sts hands to-day,
and at somewhat of a loss to know Just
h,\v to handle the situation.
During the morning the market
showed a distinct tendency towards
recovery from yesterday’s violent de
cline. The principal ground for lack
af faith in the market was the decided
decrease in activity at the advances.
That is. it was clear that buyers were
not disposed to follow the advance,
but there seemed to be little pressure
to sell at the recovered level.
For the second hour of the morning
the market was duller than for sev
eral weeks. The result of the morning
buying was to establish gains of about
a point In Union Pacific, Reading, On
tario and Western and Chicago Great
Western and of 1% in Sugar and Amal
gamated Copper, besides comprehen
sive gains of a lesser range throughout
the list.

Outlook for War Hurt.
Ey midday, however, the market had
taken alarm from the belligerent look
of the naval and military preparations
reported from Gibraltar early in the
afternoon, and forced declines of 1 to
3% points from last night, the latter in
St. Paul. The three great industrial
stocks, United States Steel preferred,
Sugar and Amalgamated Copper were
rushed up 1 to 3 points over last night
in a late rally, and the recovery else
where was practically complete with a
very strong closing.
Bonds were irregular. Total sales,
par value, 55.615,000. United States
bonds were unchanged on call.

Florida weather and crop report for
the week ended Oct. 21, issued to-day,
says; r
“The week was generally dry except
over portions of the Eastern district,
where rains were quite copious.* Some
low lands became too wet to be work
ed, and vegetables suffered as a conse
quence. Cotton picking continued,
though the bulk of the crop has been
harvested. The pk-klng now in prog
ress will be the lost of the crop. Cane,
sweet potatoes and minor crops are
doing fairly well, though needing rain
over weetern counties. Oranges are
maturing earlier than the previous
year, and shipments ate active. Light
frost occurred during the week over
interior portions of northern and west
ern districts. General farm work is
well advanced.”

The Kalamazoo Council has under
consideration the dredging of Kalama
zoo river from the city of Cooper, a
distance of several miles, for the deep
ening of. the bed In some places and
the removal of sandbars In others. The
estimated cost of a thorough Job Is
*30,000, and for half the money, It is
believed, the situation can be mate
rially Improved and the damage by
floods greatly lessened.
