SEES DEMOCRATIC
SUCCESS AHEAD
PARTY HAS FULLY UNITED.
EMPIRE STATE WILL BE CLOSE,
PARKER HAVING BETTER CHANCE.
Mr. William Cooper of New York
City Dlecusses Political Outlook
for Next Tuesday—Judge Parker's
Speech-Malting Has TUrown
Fresh Enthusiasm in Home
Stretch—Rising Tide Will Sweep
Him In—Silent Vote a Factor.
Just from the scene of the political
pot-boiling in New York, Mr. William
Cooper, an officer in the Brooklyn Dem
ocratic Club and vice president of the
Jewelers' Parker and Davis Club, is in
Savannah, stopping at the Pulaski.
In his travels over the country Mr.
Cooper has found much ground for his
belief that Parker will be elected Pres
ident next Tuesday, and was willing
to give reasons for the faith within
him.
"You must remember there are no
factions or schisms in the Democratic
party," said Mr. Cooper. "This means'
much for success. The gold, silver and
Populist Democrats are all together in
one phalanx. I never saw such good
spirit and hard work as at present.
It’s all because we have a good, grand
man for a candidate.
“I have found very little enthusiasm
in the South, no lithographs, no ban
ners and only a limited amount of
buttons and badges. But I have been
talking to men on the cars and else
where, and whenever the surface Is
scratched you find them enthusiastic.
Democratic Undercurrent,
"There can be no doubt that there is
h- strong undercurrent for Fhrker and
I believe he will show up strong. I
have been in New York, Massachusetts,
Connecticut and other states recently
and have found that many men who
voted for McKinley will support
Parker.
"In my opinion New York will be
very close, the winner getting the elec
toral vote by a narrow margin. It
■rems to me that Parker has the
bftter chance to carry the state.
Greater New York will probably roll
'JP a. majority of 180,000 for Parker.
Many men who are apparently for
l.nosevelt will really vote the Demo
cratic tickot.
'ln all preceding elections I have
hot iced a burst of enthusiasm towards
the wind-up. Roosevelt has fired oft

Judge Parker was accused of not
speaking. They have kept him quiet
up to the last. At the eleventh hour
Uiey are bringing him out and what
•re the consequences? There is a wave
enthusiasm that seems almost Irre
sistible. . What is done In Madison
Square Garden is reflected over the
country.
"There is & wave of enthusiasm

candidate, and circumstances seem to
point to a repetition of history in Par
lor's case. He Is a man of grand per

The Virginia anil Southeastern
Railway Chartered.
Richmond, Va,, Nov. 2.—The State
Corporation Commission to-day grant
ed a charter to the Virginia and
Southeastern Railway Company. The
capital stock is placed at from sl,-
000,000 to 510,000,000. The main office
of the company is at Bristol, Tenn.
The proomters of the enterprise are
said to be interested with John D.
Rockefeller and other coal, iron and
oil men, and have unlimited capital.
It is understood that the new road
is to connect at some point in the
southwestern part of the state with
the Tidewater Railroad, chartered by
the commission some time ago.
Among the directors named in the
charter are: Oliver H. Payne, New
York; Grant Schley, New York; Wal

Progress of Darien and Western's
Extension.
The work of building the extension
of the Darien and Western Railroad to
Liberty City is being pushed along
rapidly, and it is said that trains will
be moving by the Ist of January.

Of Dr. Pierce’s Golden Medical Dlscov

W. Va. "When I commenced to take
this medicine I weighed one hundred
and thirty pounds. I have token six
bottles of Dr. Pierce’s Golden Medical
Discovery and three vials of his 1 Pleas
ant Pellets,’ and am glad to say I feel
like anew man. I now weigh one hun
dred and seventy-five pounds. When I
had used one bottle of the medicine I
could feel it was helping me. I realize
Dr. Pierce’s Golden Medical Discovery
is the best medicine on earth,”
Dr. Pierce’s Golden Medical Dis
covery purifies the blood and en
tirely eradicates the poisons that
breed and feed disease. It cures
scrofula, eczema, erysipelas, boils,
pimples and other eruptions that
mar and scar the skin. Pure blood
is essential to good health. The
weak, run-down, debilitated con
dition which so many people ex
perience is commonly the effect of
impure blood. Dr. Pierce’s Golden
Medical Discovery not only cleanses
the blood of impurities, but it in
creases the activity of the blood
making glands, and it enriches the
body with an abundant supply of
pure, rich blood.

SAVANNAH MORNING NEWS: THURSDAY. NOVEMBER 3. 1004.
RAIN BROKE IN
ON WAYCROSS FAIR.
Day’s Races ( ailed Off and Few Ad
missions to the Grounds.
Waycross, Ga., Nov. 2.—Rain has
prevented the regular programme be
ing carried out at the South Georgia
Fair to-day. There were a great many
more visitors in the city to-day than
yesterday, but there were few admis
sions to the Fair Grounds because of
the rain. Only a few of the Midway
shows attempted to give any exhibi
tion.
The management was compelled to
call off the races this afternoon, but
to-morrow, Friday and Saturday after
noons the full programme of races will
be held. The Brunswick Rifles will
arrive here to-morrow morning, and a
sham battle, in which the Brunswick
and Waycross companies will take
part, is to be held at the Fair Grounds.
An attractive programme has been
arranged for each of the last three
days of the fair, as it is expected that
the largest crowds will be here on
those days.
RESPITE FOR NEGRO
HAS BEEN GRANTED.
Had Been Convicted of Assault Upon
a White Woman.
Columbia, S. C., Nov. I.—Gov. Hey
ward to-day respited the sentence of
Aaron Williams, a negro sentenced to
be hanged Friday at Camden to Dec.
23.
Williams was convicted of having
committed an assault upon a white
woman. The respite was granted on
the ground that new evidence had been
discovered, and a petition saying that
the negro did not deserve the punish
ment Imposed upon him.
Constancy of Sparrows.
From the Sunset Magazine.
I The well known reluctance of birds
to appear In public at the moulting
season lends 'a humorous side to the
situation. (Individuals which In other
days are fearless and confiding, even
inviting acquaintance, now scamper to
cover as if urged by a sense of common
decorum.
A pair of song sparrows escape from
my observation as fast as their legs
can carry them, with that peculiar
sidewise trot of theirs, as if conscious
of possible arrest by the police if
caught attired In so scanty garments.
I respect these sparrows and tpwhees
by reason of their conjugal fealty, not
one of them having appeared In the
divorce courts of California. They mate
for life, and remain constant through
thick and thin of vesture, through the
better and the worse of the year's
changes: So far as I know neither
leaves the other to look after house
hold affairs alone. Neither takes a
pleasure trip to the shore or the moun
tains or hack East; no, nor does either
frequent the social clubs of such gre
garious birds as the waxwings and
robins and mountain blues.
