GAINS IN ELECTORAL COLLEGE
Increase Greater In RepabllcM
Than In Demoeritlo Statna.
In making comparisons of the eleo
toral vote the fact should not be over
looked that the Electoral College Is
now composed of 476 votes, an increase
of 29 over that which composed the
Electoral College in 1900. At the last
presidential election McKinley receiv
ed 292 votes and Bryan 155. The states
that voted for McKinley in 1900 have
gained under the last reapportionment,
based on the census of 1900, 19 votes,
and those that voted for Bryan 2
votes. Apply this Increased representa
tion to the election of 1900, the elec
toral vote of that year would stand
McKinley, 311; Bryan, 165. The an
nexed table shows the number of elec
toral votes by states in 1900 and 1904,
respectively:

The sickest man is not al
ways in bed. The meanest
kind of sickness is just to be
able to attend to duties and
yet not feel equal to the task.
The eternal grind keeps many
in the traces who ought to be
in bed.
