CHRISTIAN NOW UNGUARDED.
Not Believed Any Farther Attack
Upon Him Will Be Made.
Macon, Nov. 14.—The men on duty
in a hospital here to guard Frank
Christian, the slayer of Fred Tharpe,
himself wounded in the encounter, have
been removed. It Is believed that they
will not be longer needed, as no fur
ther ‘attack is feared from the mob
which made its appearance at that in
stitution at an early hour Sunday
morning.
Christian Is rapidly recovering from
the effects of the wound which was in
flicted In his stomach, and the hospi
tal authorities believe that he will be
able to leave th,e Institution not later
than the end of this week,

Thomas 8. Martin of Virginia presid
ed to-day over a session of the South
ern Sub-Committee of the Merchant
Marine Commission convened here to
get the views of the local commercial
and mercantile community upon the
best means of improving the Ameri
can merchant marine.
Senator Mallory of Florida and
Congressman Splght of Mississippi
were present, as was Secretary W. L.
Marvin of Boston. A number of ex
porters and business men attended
the session.

Perry Was Therefore Taken to the
Stale Penitentiary,
Columbia, S. C., Nov. 14.—Johnnie
Perry, the young white man who shot
and killed Joe Denny Wills, another
white man, at Saluda on election day,
has been brought to the state peniten
tiary for safe keeping. This action was
taken on account of threats of lynch
ing.

who had been working as engineer for
the Adel Lumber Company for a week
or two, was accidentally killed this
afternoon by a log rolling on him
and breaking hts neck.

Henry county magistrate, aged 50
years, froze to death yesterday on the
public highway,

their abilities. The eighty-five differ
ent occupations reported varied all the
way from bellboy, driver, laborer, con
ductor, clerk and stenographer to elec
trician. draughtsman, teacher, lay
reader and sub-editor.
