New York. Nov. 22.—The opening
dealings in the stock market this morn
ing gave every evidence of a renewal
of ;he strong upward movement. Prices
were generally higher and the volume
of activity was considerably above
that for several days past. It was
evident that advantage was taken of
the higher level of prices to market
the stocks.
This has so frequently'been the ac
tion of the market through the recent
period of its advance that not much
apprehension was caused, especially as
pew roints of strength were developed
and large buying orders passed from
one to another. The fact that only
one or two stocks were strong at a
time aroused the suspicion that the
market was being supported for the
purpose of realizing.
Stock Prices Broke.
The existence of this suspicion made
the market vulnerable, and when the
rate for call loans flurried to 4 per cent,
in the afternoon stocks came out free
ly from all quarters of the room and
prices broke rather precipitately.
The special movements in Atchison
and Louisville and Nashville were bas
ed on corn and cotton crop prospects.
There was some accumulation of Read-

MONEY MARKET WAS HIGHER.
New York, Nov. 22. —The rate for
call money, which opened at 2% per
cent, this morning, advanced to 4 per
cent, early this afternoon, a consider
able amount being loaned at the high
figure. In the last hour of the market
the rate went down to 2%@3 per cent.
The high rate of to-day is the top fig
ure for the year. Several reasons were
advanced to account for the sudden
rise. Among them is the fact that
some of the large banks to-day called
loans with which to husband their re
sources, and other 'banks which have
right along been loaning large amounts
on call were not lenders to-day. Added
to this Is the coming bond sale by
the city, and preparations to meet cer
tain large corporate payments.
In the last half hour the rate again
advanced to 4 per cent., tout closed at
3%. Among the lenders of money to
day were J. P. Morgan & Cos., who
had not been active in the money mar
ket for many months.

Secretary Wilson says Congress in
tended that research along the line in
dicated should be made by the scien
tists at the state experiment stations
in co-ooeration with the National De
partment of Agriculture.
Secretary Wilson has all along
taken a lively interest in agricultural
progress in Georgia. He speaks flat
teringly of the good work annually
done at the Georgia State Fair.
The Department of Agriculture has
had one or more representatives at the
State Fair for several years. On each
occasion they commended In the
highest terms the management of the
fair, and declared that It would be
very difficult, if not impossible, for
any state in the Union to surpass the
agricultural display made by counties
competing for the capital prizes.
