2 Children Burned to Death. Elberton, Ga , Deo. 20.—At Swift’s cotton mills three children lost their lives bv fire in the last two days. Two were children of an operative named Smith, and were burned to death before assistance could reach them after their clothing had caught. An ordinance to permit the firing of firecrackers and fireworks during the Christinas holidays as herein provided. Section 1. Be It ordained by the Mayor and Aldermen of the city of Sa vannah. in Council assembled, that the firing of firecrackers and fireworks is hereby permitted In the city of Savan nah on Liberty street and south of Liberty street, (except on Bull street, north of the parade ground), from Dec. 24 to Jan. 1, both inclusive, and the ordinance heretofore passed on this subject, is amended accordingly. Ex cept as herein provided, firing of fire crackers and fireworks in the city of Savannah is forbidden under penalties of existing ordinance. Sec. 2. The firing of firecrackers or fireworks in front or into Forsyth Park is hereby forbidden under the said penalties. Sec. 3. That all ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict with this ordinance are hereby repealed. Ordinance passed Dec. 15. 1897. BONFIRES. An ordinance to permit bonfires in the Park Extension or parade ground during the Christmas holiday. Section 1.
