Adairsville, Ga., Dec. 26.—News has
just reached this place that Abe M.
Cox shot and killed Jesse L. Robert
son, 25 years old.
One account is that a disagreement
between Cox and Robertson arose over
a cotton settlement as to the amount
due Robertson for services rendered.
Mr. Harvie, an eyewitness, says that
Robertson was making at Cox with
a razor and Cox told him he did not
want any trouble. Cox backed into
the main part of the house and se
cured a double-barreled shotgun. Re
turning, he shot Robertson as Robert
son was going out of the door into
the yard. Robertson ran about 100 feet
and fell dead.
Robertson leaves a young wife.
Cox has had varied experiences, hav
ing once been a leading business man
of this place. He has made good hfs
escape.

Fitzgerald, Ga., Dec. 26.—While hunt
ing to-day Readon Dorming, a wealthy
and prominent citizen, felt on his gun,
accidentally discharging it, and was in
stantly killed. He leaves a widow and
five daughters, the youngest 3 years
old.

Halcyondalc. Ga.. Dec. 26. —Mr. B.
R. Sharpe, a prominent naval stores
operator, located across the river in
Bulloch county, four miles from here,
lost his barn, eight head of fine young
mules, a large number of hogs, and
several tons of hay by fire to-night.
Mr. Sharpe was absent and the ori
gin of the fire is supposed to be due
to the shooting of fireworks by ne
groes. His loss will approximate $3,000,
with no insurance.
Gin llnrnrd Near Sylvnnla.
Syiv&nia, Ga., Dec. 26.—The gin house
of E. D. White, Sr., who lives .about
seven miles south of Sylvania, was
burned last night after midnight. About
400 bales of hay. thirty-six bales of
cotton. 1.000 bushels of cotton seed,
besides the machinery, etc., were de
stroyed. The loss is estimated at $4,000
and $5,000, with no insurance. The
fire was undoubtedly of incendiary ori
gin.

has appointed W. Hall Harris post
master at Baltimore. Mr. Harris suc
ceeds S. Davies Warfield. His name
has never’ been mentioned in connec
tion with the office and it was not
known, except to a few, that he was

laid before the President by Charles
J. Bonaparte.

erty consists of an island in the Al
tarnaha River, in Mclntosh County, the
land being in a high state of cultiva
tion, well ditched and banked, and one
and a half miles from Darien, Ga.
There are 750 acres of rice land and
160 acres of original swamp. The time
from Savannah to Darien by steamer
is from eight to ten hours. The time
from Savannah to Darien by rail is
3% hours. This is now and has been
in the past, one of the finest rice plan
tations on the South Atlantic coast.
