Athens, Ga., Dec. 28.—The trustees of the University of Georgia, who went on the recent trip to the University of Wisconsin, as the guests of Mr. George Foster Peabody, will early in January present him a magnificent loving cup of solid silver, gold lined. Mr. Peabody arranged the trip tWat was not only pleasant, but also very highly instructive to all who were his guests, and as a token of the apprecia tion of his splendid courtesy the trus tees will present the cup. On one side is engraved the seal of the state of Georgia and on the other the following: "From the chancellor and trustees of the University of Geor gia to George Foster Peabody, with grateful memories of their visit to the University of Wisconsin, Nov. 20-26, 1904. Everett City, Ga., Dec. 28.—A South ern Railway through freight train was wrecked this morning in the yard at Everett City. One car was derailed and one was turned over. No one was hurt. Dawson, Ga., Dec 28.—Louts Scott was found dead in the woods to-day and at the inquegt Hop Baldwin was held for his murder. Scott had been missing for two weeks, and a hat found yesterday was identified as his and led to a search for the body. Scott was last seen in company with Baldwin, which fact led to the lat ter's arrest, and at the inquest he was held for Scott’s murder. Baldwin was a witness in the case against Scott.. Both are negroes. Georgla'a Debate With North Caro llnn. Athens, Ga„ Dec. 28.—The question for debate between the representa tives of the University of Georgia and the University of North Carolina in their annual intercollegiate debate which will be held next April, has been chosen. It is Resolved, That the best interests of the United States are opposed to the permanent acquisatlon of Eastern colonies, except coaling stations. Georgia has the affirma tive or Democratic side of the ques tion. The men who are to represent Georgia in this debate will be chosen soon and will at once begin to pre pare themselves for the contest with their Carolina competitors. i. ♦ Coffee Held for n Misdemeanor. Gainesville, Ga., Dec. 28.—George Cof fee, charged with assaulting Mrs. Isa belle Savage, near Bellton Sunday, was given a trial before Squire Dorsey here to-day. The prosecution failed to make out a case against Coffee, but the court bound him over under a 8200 bond for a misdemeanor. A large number of witnesses were examined and much interest was manifested in the outcome of the trial. Coffee’s friends claim that the result is a vindication of him. Eight's Store Burned. Kite, Ga„ Dec. 28.—Fire broke out in the store of G. T. Kight at 11 o’clock last night. The stock was part ly covered by insurance. The building belonged to J. M. Johnson and was worth S6OO.
