The United States Deputy Murshal seis
ed on the British bark Mulhall, of No
va Scotia, at City Point to-day, to satisfy a

Gen. O. Brown, Chief of thcJBurcau, has
received a letter trom Norfolk, explaining

up to this time unmolested. Taylor was
pardoned more than a year ago. Ho has
been endeavoring to get thorn ofiT, but they
havo persistently refused to leave. A fow
days since, a party went out from Nor
folk accompanied by an agont of tlio Bu
reau, to persuade them to loayo, offering
places on Gen. Wiso’s farm, which 1s still
In tho liands of tho government. They
assembled together and through their
spokesman refused all offers of a conpro-
rnlsc, declaring that tho President had no
right to pardon Taylor and that they
would remain oil tlio farm and defend
what thoy considered tliolr property against
all comers. Steps will be taken to eject
them by civil process. There has been no
outbreak os yet, and no armed demonstra
tion was made. The conference was a
peacablc and a bloodless one, but fa feared
that trouble will grow out of it and that
blood may bo shed before tho squatters
will yield their sovereignty.

ed in the construction.
