enjoyment. There Im nothing intellectual
about It. A man drinks whisky a* a hog
drinks swill; only with this difference,
that In the former ease the animal saerl-
ileea health, steady nerves ami an active,
clear brain, for & few moments of beastly
enjoyment Whereas In the .second <■«»<“•
the animal drinks a decoction which in not
only palltablo to swinish tin* to. hut affords
nutriment to tho vital functions of the
body.
Drinking has liec'ome a sort of popular
faith, it is thought that a man cannot
tritely happy unless lie drinks. Among
certain clashes, a ‘vSrliiU” is the beginning
and'ending «f everything. If two friends
moot after long separation, they must take
u "drink.” If tliey fall out and quarrel,
anu afterwards make up. the reconciliation
iiiest be signalized hy a ••drink.” The very
ntemeof whisky Is held to be synonymous
with enjoyiueui; and the harder tho times,
ami the dearer the liquor, the more it is
j)rizod and riveted. Men Will borrow
money at tln^e per cent, per mouth to
•drink < 'hampidgin* upon, w hen they would
tuel unable to pay the same rates on money
with w tikih pay their just debts.
The aiimiiU return ofthe Christmas ho.i-
d.ay-. is tbetcgual to get *meUow.” The
landlonktbr merchant, the shoemaker, fbe
tailor, riit physician, the printer, and
in seine instances the pc-acher too.

Tie*se delegates are from various parts of
the State, and may be said to fairly repre

of Georgia. The fact therefore, that, they
voted almost unanimously for tlie resolu

are these delegates the representative f
