Use your wits. Work more with your head and you need not work so much with your hands. The richest men in the world are those who commence on nothing, and have lifted themselves up by the straps of their boots. They financiered like our railroad men, who make colossal fortunes on their bonds, without money. Issue your bonds, and give the roadbed and superstructure of your new house as security. But here a nice yonng man answers that his rich associates and friend* will snub him if be lives in such style. Here is the great error of most young men. They wish to commence life in as elegant a style as their fathers lived in after a quarter of a century’s hard work. It is the great error of theatre, that the prolific source is celi bacy'. and bachelorhood operates as a fraud upon good looking girls, who are cheated out of husbands by such foolishness. Respect yourself—act independently— take a longer look at things—snub the snubbers and make them sick of it. and in five years or less you will lie bowed to and courted by the same men. The good will of such men is purchased at too dear a price. It is not worth having. Yon are a coward. You are a toady. You are willing to sell out your home and iude|>endencc fur such weak and unmanly sentimentalism. Dare to follow your owrf line of policy if it be honest and for your interest to do so, and do not allow a weak, foolish and false pride to consign you to hard labor for life as the tenant and vassal of your landlord.” Council Proceedings.—Council met last night at the usual hour—present, his Honor. Mayor Williams, Councilmen Pe ters. Hayden, Gullatt, Mitchell, Rawsou. Holland, Terry, Cox, Castleberry and An derson. Minutes of last meeting were read and adopted. The majority report of the committee on the *• change of the names of streets” was read, and Col. Ball, chairman of the com mittee, being present, was called upon, who made a few pointed remarks in be half of the report. On motion of Alderman Holland, the re- j>ort was referred to the Committee on Or dinances. On motion of Alderman Cox, the report was reconsidered and taken up and read by sections. Section 1 was read and adopted; the 2d, 3d, 4th. 5th and 6th were read and stricken out. whereupon a motion was made to lay T the whole matter on the table, which mo tion prevailed, and the question of a •• change of the names of streets ” here “ coflumexed.” Here the rules were suspended to con sider a communication of Maj. TltO.AIAS, Roctor St. Fhilip‘3 Church, Atlhnta, Ga., A. K. Shago, Esq.: Sir—In answer to your question respecting Baugh's Raw Bone Super-Phosphate I send you the fol lowing filets: I prepared in my garden, at West End, three squares for Irish potatoes; on the first I put nothing; on the second, Guano at the rate of two hundred and fifty pounds per acre; on the third, your Bone Dust at the rate of three hundred pounds per acre. As you are not interested in the quality, I give no particulars of soil or mode of cul ture, further than to say that in these re spects, and in time of planting the squares j were equal. The square manured with i Guano yielded forty per cent, over the nn- manured square; and that manured with Baugh's Raw Bone .Super-Phosphate seventy-five per cent, over the unmanured square. It may be that the Guano was not a pure article. I bought it, however, for Peruvian, and from a reliable house, and at the samo rate per pound as the Bone THROUGH RATES ON COTTON TO NEW,YORK, AND 0 Til E REA S T E It X C IT I ES f VIA NORFOLK.
