THE DAI 'jY OPINION. fATURDAY MORNING::::::: NOV. 1C. The West Indies—Further Amounts of the Hurricane at St. Thomas—Hundreds of Idoes House on the Island. Bgmadfo' Might Millions of Property De- I widow's do 1 —New York. November 12.—St. Tm>mas correspondence gives further par ticulars of the destruction by the terrible Iiarricane. There is not a dwelling on the island that has not suffered. Many houses ltarc no roofs. The small houses of the poor classes were leveled to the ground, and there have been buried already over 380 persons who were killed on shore, and a like number have been wounded and maimed. Every few moments the harbor | throws up tlm dead, and it is one continual string or coffins through the streets. Over live hundred persons were drowned. In tome cases not a soul is living to relate a Word regard ing their vessels. The steamer S re lost fifty -three persons. The steamer one, ont of one hundred and fifty, 21 Were saved. The Spanish steamer Um- negy, whose heroic captain saved many lives, lost seventeen, out of thirty. The American ship Charles Sprague had but the captain and one man saved. The English steamer Columbian had just arrived with fMlOO packages of dry goods, and was sunk in leas than three hours after anchorage. Eight millions of dollars will not pay the lots. Merchants suffered heavily with the rain, as the tops of their were off. Up to this date, three hundred and sixty have been buried of those who lost their lives by the hurricane. This awful visita tion has inflicted severe suffering upon all the inhabitants of this island, the poor es pecially. Messrs. Pennison & Co., of No. 17 South street, who have vessels trading there, will receive and forward, gratis, any contributions of money or provisions. ADMINISTRATOR’S SALE.
