. - has tilled various positions of
araeter with honor to himself
to the positions occupied. If
tbt Mr. S. will give satlsfac-
per and hotel drummers are on the quivi;
pious ministers and professed Christians
wear dignified faces, and aspiring politi
cians assumed a dignity and wisdom that
would do credit to Prelates; the streets are
thronged with busy, hurrying pedestrians,
all seemingly in quest of and expecting to
catch a “real benefit.” So goes the world.
Time works wonders, and ere many days
passes away we “will see what we will
see.”
The cotton market to-day is decidedly
lively. Sales will probably amount to 450
or 600 bales. The largest transactions in
the staple that has taken place in the city
this season. The ruling figures were ll%c.
We notice the arrival in the city this
morning of 15 car loads of fat porkers. We
presume that they are intended for this
market. If so, there is enough to supply
a goodly number of our population.
To the Public.—The Lecture Commit
tee of the Young Men's Library Associa
tion are finally prepared to make an
nouncement of a course of lectures.
The object of these lectures is two-folds
We desire by the introduction of a chaste
entertainment and amusement of thc high
est order of ability. genius anil learning:
First, to educate the intellect and cultivate
the taste of our people, and elevate Atlan
ta society; and, secondly, to make the lec
ture system a source of revenue for thc
support of the Association, tho enlarge
ment of its usefulness and thc extension
of its benefit.
As these lectures are primarily intended
for the instruction and entertainment of
all who desire to attend them, both for
their own benefit, and to aid so eminently
worthy an institution as the Young Men’s
Library Association, it was, after mature
deliberation, determined to fix the price of
admission at such a rate that none might
be debarred the pleasure of attendance, or
deem the amount an unnecessary tax. The
price of a single lecture ticket was, there
fore, fixed at fifty cents, with a discount
upon tickets bn- the whole course of ten
lectures.
Diligent effort has been employed to se
cure the most distinguished lecturers and
the selections have been carefully made.—
The following gentlemen have been posi
tively engaged to deliver lectures: Rev.
Father A. J. Ryan, Rev. K. A. Holland.
Rev. J. S. Lamar, Gen. II. It. Jackson, and
Bishop George F. Pierce.
Having thus secured lecturers of wide
distiction. and placed the price of admis
sion to the lectures within the easy reach
of all, we bi it*fly. \ et earnestly and confi
dent!}'. appeal to the heads and hearts of
our people for a generous support. The ef
forts of the young men to establish an in
stitution for their intellectual improvement
and moral culture, and the advancement of
society, certainly deserves the heartiest en
couragement. Every city of importance
has its system of Winter lectures, and At
lanta, always foremost in the spirit of en
terprise. will not be a laggard in an under
taking so well calculated to elevate her
moral, intellectual and social status.
Tickets will be found at the hotels and
various stores in the city. W r e appeal to
all to come forward and purchase tickets,
not waiting to be called on for the purpose.
It was arranged that the first lecture
should be delivered by the Rev. Father Ry
an, but unavoidable circumstances caused
a postponement of his lecture, so that the
first will be delivered on Thursday night
next, by the Rev. It. A. Holland, and the
second by the former gentleman.

The following testimony in reference to
the above ft rtili/.er, by one well known in j

TESTIMONY OFCHAS. W. THO.HA8,
Rector St. Philip’* Church, Atlhnts, G».,
A. K. Sf.aqo, Esq. . Sir—In answer to
your question respecting Baugh’s Raw
Bone Super-Phosphate I send you the fol
lowing facts:
I prepared in my garden, at West End,
three squares for Irish potatoes; on the
first I put nothing; on the second. Guano
at the rate of two hundred and fifty pounds
per acre; on the third, your Bone Dust at
the rate of three hundred pounds per acre.
As you are not interested In the quality, I
give no particulars of soil or mode of cul
ture, further than to 9ay that in these re
spects, and in time of planting the squares
were equal. Tiie square manured with
Guano yielded forty per cent, over the un
manured square; and that manured with
Baugh’s Raw Bone Super-Phosphate
seventy-five per cent, over the unmanured
square. It may be that the Guano was not
a pure article. I bought it, however, for
Peruvian, and from a reliable house, and
at the same rate per pound as the Bone
Dust. CHAS. W. THOMAS.
