ed. The firing was immediately across the track of the Western and Atlantic railroad. Two miles south of Ringgold is Greenwood Water Tank, where the freight trains, and occasionally the passenger trains of the Western and Atlantic railroad stop for water. In sight of this little flag station, on the east, is the residence of Mr. Sanford L. Bell, who has been an employe of the Western and Atlantic railroad for thirty-four years, and whose face as a conductor has been familiar to travel ers through this sunny land for many years past. The other stations in the valley are Chickamauga, twelve miles south of Chattanooga, and Boyce, midway be tween the two. At Chickamauga is a quarry of the finest blue limestone for building purposes which is found in the South. Boyce is the point of junction of the Western and Atlantic railroad and the Cincinnati Southern railway. These two great trunk lines here con nect their rails and interchange prac tically all of their bulk business. This valley will always be a favorite spot for the tourist, as well as for the health-seeker or happy inhabitant. The halo of historic glory hangs over its past, and the bright sky of pros perity not only now smiles above it, but, doubtless, in the future will al ways be radiant with the bow of prom ise. Two Important Essays. The Atlanta school boy thus dis courses on the red snapper and the goat: THE RED SNAPPER. The red snapper is the only anny mal that ain’t got no neck, there ain’t but one kind of a fish in the World that lives on the land and Flys round in the air, and that is a fish hawk. A red snapper has a large mouth and my Sunday school teacher’s got a large mouth too. Two kids got filein in the vestry one day and one of em pulled a lot of Hare out of the other kid’s Hed and the Superintending pounded one of his Eeers with a book and so they quit. A fish would look fun ny if they had legs and could run. THE GOAT. The goat is a savage Beast when they g<t mad and it is dangerous Biz nis to try to bury a goat up in the leaves, when a goat is Ded it is well Enuff to have fun with him. Six of us couldn t cuvver a goat up with leaves and Jimmy Smith couldn’t go to school for a long time and then the goat butted an other feller till he couldn’t get up and couldn’t holler, and the doctor had to come and cure him. Some boys give a gote some corne in a pale and put in a lot of tor pedos and the gote didn’t eat but a few for his jaw got blowed oft and he run off down on tan yard branch and nev er et any more and died, ihe gote that perfumes the man that can’t walk at the corner of the postoffice will never dye though. Only via the Western and Atlantic railroad can you get to the healthiest county in Georgia, if not in America. The Western and Atlantic railroad runs more passenger trains over the same rails than any other railroad in the South. THE GREAT KENNESAW ROUTE GAZETTE. SCHEDULES BETWEEN — Jacksonville and Atlanta. Soul food is what keeps an editor fat when he tries to publish a newspaper according to his honest convictions. Didn’t Like Him —“I don’t like that fellow Smith.” “Why?” “ Well, | sometime ago I asked him to lend me $10.” “ And he refused you ? ” ‘‘Oh, no; he let me have the money, and that’s why I am dodging him.” Sam Jones, the great evangelist, lives on the Kennesaw Route, at Car tersville, Ga. Who is that man up in our walnut tree?” “Oh, that’s poor Mr. Jenks, our ashman.” “Well, what’s the mat ter with him. Has he got a fit?” “Oh, no. He said he felt he had a chill com ing on, so I sent him up the tree. Just see, he has shaken everyone of them off, and saved us so much trouble.” JACOBS PHARMACY, Cor. Peachtree & Marietta Sts.
