NEWS OF GEORGIA.
Albany complains of a scarcity of vegetables.
The stockholders of ihe Talbot county atock and

A mad drg appeared at he house of Mr. Walker,

attempt was made to kill the animal, but it etcap-
ed, going in a southerly direction.
A young man named Murphy, living below Cole
City, was shot and dangerously wounded by
known parties a few days since. He was riding to
neighbor's, when someone in ambush fired a load
of shot into his back and fled. There is no clue to
the criminal.
Athens Danner: A gentleman tells us that In

On Saturday night an old negro, named George
Bnah near Geneva went Into the woods and built
up a large fire and lay down to sleep. On Sunday
morning his body wssdiscovered burned to a crisp
It is supposed that ho was overcome by liquor and
sleep and thus was burned to death by the fire he
bad built to keep from freexing. He is snid to havo
been a negro of very weak mind. Coroner Iturge
held an inquest and tho jury rendered a verdict in
accordance with the foregoing facts.

W. Helium vs William Hall, et al. were engaged
the greater part of Isst week in preparing the pa
pers lu the above cited case for the supreme court.

ties are made, William Hall, one of the defendants,
having recently died. Mr. J. W. flail, one of tho
defendant's counsel, says the admlnistratoron the

The Kra also says: On Saturday evening last Mr
Thomaa Noel I, who recently moved to Itedbor.c,
having bought out Mr. Trank Weathers, was in tho
field near iris dwelling cutting wood with one of
his boys. Mr. Nocll had finish' d his cut on the
log and asked his son if he had finished The boy
replied "no.” “I will sit down and wait for you,”
aald Mr. Nocll, and they were tho lost words ho
ever spoke, as he had scarcely sit down when ho
fell over from the leg dead! He sou aald he never
breathed but twice after he fell.
A very unfortunate accident occurred on the
premises of Mr. N. W. Hcott, a worthy and highly
respected cltixen of Taylor county. While Mr.
Moot! and other members of his family were tu tho
back yard preparing to kill hogs, their little chil
dren having been left in tho house by a comfortable
fire, in some myatertoua way uuknown to either
Mr. Scott or any portion ot hia family, tho clothing
of bis son, only two years of ago, caught fire and
deaplte the earnest efforts of father and mother, Its
body was fesrfully burned- Medical aid was I
mediately summoned but It was of no avail.

David McLain, who bad been iu Chatham jail
sevenUmonths under conviction of the crime of
mut/w, was taken on Monday to Charlton
comity, for sentence. He wss brought back to
Havaunah, via the Savannah, Florida and Western
railway, and recommitted to jail for safe keeping.
The prisoner was sentenced by Judge M. L. Mer*
sbon, of the Brunswick circuit, in Charlton
ptrlor court, ou Tuesday, the 22d Inst, to lie hung
on the 7th of next March. He will bo kept in
close confinement in Chatham county jail until the
6th of that mouth, when he will be taken to Charl
ton county, and on the following day his execution
will take place on the lands of John Brooks, about
one mile west of Trader’s hill, between the hours
of I t o'clock in the morning and .1 o'clock In the
afternoon. When the condemned matt arrived at
the jail he saluted the guards and smiled, and
seemingly was pleased that ho was again in secure
quarters. He intimated that he bad been in the
main well treated by the otficcrs
from Charlton county, but that
he did not like the idea of having an iron collar
around his neck, to which was attach
long chain, ( and that he
thought tho authorities there might have per
mitted him to converso with fomo of Dispeople.
The prisoner was returned to tho cell .which ho
occupied previous to his departure, and lu a ihoit

The work on the Cuyler swamp canal, says the
Savannah News, is progressing very rapidly.
Since the 1st of November the canal b&s been
extended 1,570 lineal feet, and la now over a half
mile north of the railroad bridge. The width at
base of the excavation has been reduced from 20 to
15 feet. ME William Shuman, the superintendent
of the convict gang, who baa been In chaige for the
past two months, has given great satisfaction to
the commissioners for the manner in which he has
pushed this work.
Mr. L. Abernathy, of Cartersvllle, claims to have

Deacon Champion's widow, living near Mt. Ho

Mr. William L. Hmllh, the tax collector of Tel
fair county, made on tho tilth Instant a final settle
ment with thi stale and county of all taxea due for
the past year. The grow amount of the poll tax
waa 11,166, of which amouut (674 94 waa paid to the
county school commissioner for public schools.
The gross amount of theconnty tax was 9I,9.'0.29,
and the collector's commissions 9169. A cltixen of

member of the Loug Cane Presbyterian church for

George Wilkes, living near Jefferson, discovered

A negro girl near Marcus, in Jackson county, has
curious deformity in tho way of four feet on two
extremities, the two feet on each limb Intersecting
or crossing each other. Shoes almost in the shape
of a cross are made for her feet. She has twenty
perfect toes and four distinct heels.
Walker County Messenger: On the cold Saturday
of the year. K M. Njitomi was eutrutsted by the

to take to Chattanooga- He took it home, but was

make the trip. Monday of last week he went to
Chattanooga aud paid it over as directed But stmv

Billy Graham,' colored, has been convicted in
hathsra superior court ef manslaughter, lie
killed Patrick Keagau iu May, 1881. The judge
sentenced him to three years in the penitentiary.

tion.
Americus Republican: Hawkins McNath, a child
about 14 years old, living near this Place, was kick

Stephens, have leased for a number of years the

cided that Mr. C. W C. Wright could be released
