ago, Harry Gibson, a hotel bell boy, wo* takon to
the Insane department of the. county Jail, mitering i
from a malady which sccmcil at times to resemble

GiUen was ever bitten by a dog, either rabid or
otherwise, yet he snapped his teeth and growled nt
people, frothed st tbe mouth, and in every way
gave evidence of suffering from rubles. It was at
first supposed his malady was brought on from a
serious injury ho received ftom felling and strikin
bis head on an iron stalrcoso. A now and myste- .
riou* phase of the case has dovclofifcd and 1* worry

Before GiUon’s removal to Jail he wss cared for
at a hotel, snd a porter named John Hellland was
detailed to watch him. lie would argue with his
attendant in the most rational manner, saying
there wax no necessity for his being watched, bnt
the ucment his attendant turned his back Gibson
would leap npon him and endeavor to bito him.
After Gibson's removal neillond was relieved from
the duty of caring for the patient Ho went to hi*
room and spent tbe next forenoon In sleep. When.
lie went to work he complained tohUfollow-
porters of feeling ill, but thought nothing serious
of it. The day following, however, he was attack
ed with the same symptoms manifested by young
Gibson, and became violently mad and unmanage
able. He frothed at tho mouth and acted Uko a
person having the hydrophobia, though at times he
w oa perfectly rational, lie declares he was not bit
ten by Gibson, and had not been bitten by a dog.
Tho attacks recur at regular intervals each day.
The case will be thoroughly investigated.
