SUPPLEMENT ATLANTA' WEEKLY CONSTITUTION.
ABOUT TAKING A NEWS
PAPER.
WHY EVERY EAMILY OUGHT
TO HAVE ONE.
No Man too Poor to Take a Paper.
It is the cheapest thing he can buy. Every
time a hen clucks and has laid an egg his
paper is paid for that week. It costs less
than a postage stamp, less than to send or
receive a single letter.
What good does it do you? It instructs
you and broadens your view’s. It interests
your wife, and it educates your children. It
conies to you every week, rain or shine, calm
or storm, bringing you th* news of the busy
world. No matter what happens, it enters
your door every week as a welcome friend,
full of sunshine and cheer and "interest. It
opens the door of the great world and puts
you face to face with its people and its great
events. It shortens the long summer days,
and it enlivens the Jong winter nights. It
is your adviser, your gossip, and your friend.
No man is just to his children who doos not
give them a good paper to read. No man is
good to himself and his wife who does not
take a first-class newspaper.
You Ought to be Careful to Get the
Rest Paper,
because when you subscribe you are fixed for
one year. That is a long time to stand a poor
paper. Suppose you were going to invite
some one to your house to spend a year. You
would be mighty particular to see that that
man was exact ly the sort of fellow you want
ed ; if he was not you would get very tired
of hiih before the year was out. Well, now,
when vou subscribe for a paper for one year
it is just like inviting a man to spend the
year with you. No matter it you get tired
of it the first month, you have got to stand
it for the balance of the time, so you ought to
be particular to get the best.
AVe claim The Constitution is the best
and cheapest paper you can get.
Why?
Well, first is its record. Four years ago
it had 9,000 subscribers; now’ it has got 126-
000. That is hard to beat. It simply moans
that every man who took it was So delighted
with it that lie kept, on taking it, and got all
his friends to take it. It means that every
man who saw a stray copy of it liked it so
well that he became a subscriber. We have
frequently had an agent distribute ten copies
of the paper and get eight subscribers
Often a man has shown one copy in a crowd
of a dozen men and got ten subscribers. The
hundred thousand subscribers It has gained
in three vears are all over the country. They
had been taking all the other leading papers.
Sonic one paper and some another. When
ever they saw’ The Constitution they
stopped their papers and joined our lists.
'These men would not have taken 'I he Con
stitution and quit the papers they had been
taking unless The Constitution had been
the best paper. Success is a mighty good
criterion, and on its merits as a paper The
Constitution has increased from 9,000 to
126,000 subse ribe rs.
But look at the paper itself.
It is the only weekly with twelve pages.
It prints more matter than any other.paper.
It has more special writers. Bill
Arp gets more than S2O for every letter he
writes. Dr. Talmage is paid well for every
sermon. The editress of our Woman’s King
dom gives her whole time to tho work, and is
well paid for it. We have paid more than
S2OO for one story. We stop at no cost to
got the best of everything for our readers,
and w’c pay more for special writers than
any six papers in the country.
The Constitution is a cheerful paper. It
is a clean paper. It is a patriotic paper. It
is a democratic 'paper. Above all, it is a
southern paper, full of southern pictures and
southern sights. It suits every member of
the family. The farmer gets his farm news
and his polities. The soldier gets his War
stories ; the merchant gets his markets ; the
women have their own department with
stories and poetry ; tho children have their
corner; young men and women their stories
of adventure and travel. Every week there
is a sermon. From the old grandmother in
the chimney corner to the little child writ
ing the first letter to Aunt Susie, The
Constitution is a welcome visitor everv
week.
Now try it.
Send in your subscription at once, and you
will say it is the, best investment you ever
made.

sheets of this supplement. Study the paper
that is sent with this, compare it with other

AVe want 200,000 readers this year. Won’t
you be one? If you want to get your paper
for nothing and make money besides, send
for our agent’s outfit, and that will show’you
how to do it. By an hour’s work vou can
make your own paper free and put money in
your pocket besides We want an agent at
every postoilice in America. Andress

The growth oLTmt Weekly Constitution In the
past few years has no parallel in weekly journalism.
Ou October Ist, ISB3, the circulation was 8,200.
On September the Ist, 1890, the circulation was
112,000.
T his tremendous increase is accounted for by the
following reasons:
Ist. IT 18 A NEWSPAPER. It carries to its read
ers every Tuesday the news of the world up to the
hour of going to press. Whatever happens, no
matter where, The Constitution carries the first
news of it to its readers.
2d. IT IS A DEMOCRATIC TAPER. By
this we do not mean a democratic new’S-

so-called democratic papers, but it proposes

promising the people tho rilief they de

4th. XT IS A FAMILY PAPER. It interests every
member of the family. U prirsts more stories than
the story papers, more farm news than the agricul
tural papers, more fun than the funny papers. It
has war stories for the old soldier, tales of travel
and adventure for the young men, poetry and ro
mance for the young ladles, housewifery for the
housewife, and stories and puzzles and letters for
the children.
6th. IT IS AN INSTRUCTIVE PAPER. It is used
in many schools to read from. Its special sketched
of travel, scientific progress, views of strange lands,
with the history of our own, makes it worth sis
months’ schooling to any boy who reads it.
6th. IT IS THE LARGEST TAPER PRINTED.
It is 12 pages or 72 columns. Each week’s issue is
equal to a book. It has 624 pages a year, and the
man who reads them through will know every
thing worth knowing that has happened within
the year.
