Washington, May 4.—Quite unexpectedly
a brief but sharp debate was precipitated
In the .senate today on the income tax prop
osition.
The resolution proposing an amendment
ro the constitution of the United States re
lating to the succession to the presidency
was under disdussion.
Mr. '.lllis, of Texas, proposed an amend
ment In the form ol a new section Intended
