Mr. J. A. Fritz, the Marietta street butcher,
came near being burned to death last night, at
the blub arbor meeting. He is seriously dam
aged. An exploding lamp caused the accident.
Dora Stewart has filed a libel fordivoice
from her husband, John Stewart.
On the 17th inst. there will be held in Phila
delphia a convention of the Governors of the
original 13 States. The object of the meeting
will be to arrange for a centennial of the “Old
Thirteen” to beheld next year. Governor Mc-
Daniel will leave this evening for that place ac
companied by Col. E. P. Howell and Adjutant-
General John A. Stephens.
At 3 o’clock this morning burglars entered a
Mr. Postell.s bouse some time just before mid ■
night and chloroformed the entire family and
then ransacked the place. Police officers were
■aminoned to the place, and when Capt. Muon
arrived he found all the family in almost a dy
ing condition. Mr. Postell was at work at the
Air-Line shops, and was immediately sent for.
Early this morning the family appeared to be
getting along well except a small child, who it
"is thought will die. It is about 3 years old.

Mr. Walter L. Forsyth, the chairman of the
association invitation committee, leaves this
moening for Birmingham, Ala. He goes to ac
cept a position with the Western Union Co.
To-day the fall meeting of the convention of
Southern railload general passenger agents
wiilhe held in Chattanooga. A number of local
railroad men left the city, yesterday and late
last night, to attend the session. Full passen
ger rates will be arranged, and little business
beyond the regular routine is expected.
Mr. C. W. Chears, assistant general passen
ger agent of the Richmond and Danville rail
road, who has been in Atlanta for several days
past, will return to Richmond, to-day. There
is a prospect that Mr. Chears may meve his
beadquarters to Atlanta, and it is very gratify
ing to bis many friends in this city.
Yesterday a consultation was held at the Kim
ball house by the following officials of the Cen
tral system: J. W. Greene, general manager
Georgia railroad; Cecil Gabbett, general mana
ger Western railroad of Alabama; W. F. Shell
man, general trafic manager Central railroad;
C. H. Cromwell, general passenger agent Wes
tern railroad. President Raoul, of the Central,
was in the city, but was not present at the con
ference, the object of which was to consult as to
the outlook for fall business. The cotton tariff
and division was the principal question. As
pne of the officials present remarked. “It was
|a family meeting which did nothing of interest
Ito the outside world.” President Raoul left in
[the afternoon for New York, accompanied by
■us daughter. He goes on business for the road,
■bior Greene returned to Augusta and Mr.
to Montgomery. Messrs. Shellman
went to Chattanooga last night.
