yesterday morning tn superior court.
It will be remembered that Tlppen
shot Colteld at a dance In tdndnle last
November, from the effects of which
he died In a few days. The state tvns
represented by Solicitor \V. II. Ennis
and his assistant, Walter B. Bhaw.
The defense was defended by Henborn
and Barry Wright and Marcus B. Eu
banks.
The greater portion of the morning
was spent In drawing tha. Jury. The
state made out a prims facie case,
proving the killing and by whom th<
shots were fired that caused Cofleld's
death. The testimony for the defense
doveloped that all the parties had been
lo a show which waa followed by it
dance. It seems that once before on
the evening Cofleld ran Into Tlppen
while he was dhnclng with a young la

what this suffering old lady had to say.

pen pulled loot# from Cofleld and left
the building.
The defense called a number of wit
nesses to testify as to the good charac
ter of the defendant.
The court then adjourned until to

Miller was released from custody Jast

oil which worried Macon grocers and

relieved and the Standard Oil Com
pany had several tank wagons going
the regular rounds yesterday to supply

resentative* of the Standard oil
Company, wan due to the railroads,
which failed to bring the tank cars
promptly to the warehouse.
