Georgia Southern and Florida railroad,

sacks of mall were destroyed. Thla

Hast coming to the South via Atlanta
and Macon. When tha names attacked
the mall car, all efforts to save the
mail were of no avail and hundreds
of letters slid packages, destined to

hour yesterday Mias Josephine Stan
ford. one of the oldest nnd most
universally loved nnd admired resi
dents «f Hpnrta. passed away at her
home, on Broad street, flhe has for
months been In very feeble health,
which was due to old age. and the end
was not imex$>eeted hy her friends.
Miss Stanford was In her 87th year
and has enjoyed until recently un-
usuatty good health for a parson of her
age. Hhe resided with her slater, Alisa
Anne Htanford, by whom she la sur
vived.
The funeral will take place this aft

Joseph During to Induce his wife to
leave Macon and hla following violent
action are said to have been the cause
of his being arrested twice, both times
by his wife.
The man was fined 115 In police
court. Mrs. Mabel Drunlng. who le an
attractive woman, wae at police court,
and made the statements upon which
the prisoner was fined.
Soon after he left the court he over
took his wife on the way to the hotel,

Jefferson City. Mo.. Feb. 27 —Owing
to the fact that smallpox attacked only
the Democrats of the house of repre
sentatives, It Is believed certain that
the party measure, the Jim Crow law,
will be defeated. It had passed the
■enate, but the house needed every
Democratic vote to pose the bill.
