of the murder of his dnughter. Ruby
Bullard, who was 17 years of age when
she was shot down.
The killing occurred nt Ihe breakfaat
table In the home or the Bullards, near
Powder Springs There had been sto-
ties circulated regarding Bullard's al
most Insane love for hla daughter nnd
this had at one time drawn the father
Into tlte courts.
Bullard shot the girl through th*
head with a pistol and then gave him
self up to the officer* of the law-. |
For a hmir time his only explanation
Was: "It was necessary." He,was
convicted, and an effort was made to
save him on the Idea of Insanity. This
failed and he was condemned to death
on March 1. 18n7.
Last Wednesday he opened Ills lip*,
and to a reporter for The Georgian told
the Ural time why he killed hi*
iLiugotct. He < la lined then that It trns

such a determined fight In behalf of
Ihe condemned man. visited Bullard In
his cell at It o'clock and told him

want to thank you for IL"

said IU' could not witness the excu-

Th* hanging nf s dylsg man nt Ma
rietta today I regard aa brutal and
believed Governor J. M. Terrell to be
humane and fearless, 1 am genuinely
surprised thst he permitted the shame
ful thing to bo done.
Poor Bullard! He Is gone and really
la better dead than living, but how
about Georgts?
Does any sane person believe that
the result would have bean thl* hor
rible mockery of justice, had Bullard
nnd his family been possessed of wealth
and Influence?

poise, sitting inn. standing 110; respi
ration. silting 20 to 26, standing 80 to
25. His history, hi* symptom* and the
available p8y«lrsl signs Indicate th*
existence of tuberculosis ot the lung*
and of ihe larynx.
The upper pnrtlnnn of both lung* ar*
affected to a considerable degree—the
right slightly more than the left. 11,
sneaks w | ( h difficulty and only In t
whispered voice, lie has a very trou
blesome cough, accompanied by abun
dant muco-purulent expectoration.
Able to Walk About
He la evidently greatly reduced In
weight and strength, though he can
eually stand erect and walk unassisted
about the room and corridors—neither
-the emaciation nor Ihe debility Is ex
treme. At no time since hi* Incarcera
tion has he been confined to bed.
h*a hern up and dressed every day.
The disease seems to be of about two
years’ standing, nnd lo have progressed
slowly, hut there I* reason to Delleve
■ hat It ha* progressed more rapidly
since his Imprisonment In Heptember
last than before that time.
We can discover at thla stage no rea
son to think that Its course will be ar-
*«tcd. It will probably be progressive
and prove ultimately fatal, and un
less material Improvement Is manifest
ed, Ihla result will not be long de
layed. m* if.
Improved Physically,
can venture no poatlve prediction
as to tbe exact duration of life. It Is
certainty possible that he may aurvtvr
for months, and, on the other hand,
the ratio nf decline may be speedily
augmented. In hla condition he la lia
ble to certain accidents and to various
Intrrcurrent affectations which may
Inhumnn. It constitutes a blot on Ihe suddenly terminate life or greatly me-
ttouthrrn civilisation. Having a.ways cslsrate the ordinary progress ot tka
