March 15.—There Is strong Intimation today that no con ference will take place between Presi dent Roosevelt and the four railroad presidents who have been expected :n Washington. The president bad a conference to day with Interstate t'omtnlssloners Prouty and Harlan, supposedly to re late to general matters before the com mission and possibly to the discussion of a possible meeting between the pres. Idem and the railroad men. Following this conference, at both the White ommerce omtnlsalon. It was auJd that no ap polntment has been made for such a meeting. The Intimation which J. P. Morgan conveyed while here the other day that It would be a good Idea for the presi dent to talk over railroad matters i certain railroad executives, was nn^ construed at the White House aa mak ing any engagement. A hearing which may develop sensation, and throw some light on the afTalrs of ths Georgia Redetnp tlon and Loan Company, Is scheduled before Justice of the Peace Kdgar H. Orr for Frk^py afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. Mr. Turner will not be able to ap pear in court on account of Illness, and a continuance Is probable. At that time M. M. Turner, former councilman from the Fourth ward, will be arraigned on g charge of embessle ment. made by Judge J. C. McKinnon, of Marianna. Fla. This warrant sworn out on Wednesday night and waa served by deputies from Sheriff Nelms' office. At that time Mr. Turner gave bond In ths sum of $2,000 for his ap pearance In court. The arrest grows out of an Investiga tion made of the affairs of the Georgia Redemption and Loan Company by Re. celver E. R. Block, who was appointed some time ago by Judge Pendleton to take charge of the assets of the com pany on the petition of several credit ors. % No Books Kept Thursday afternoon Receiver Black riled In court a report of his Invest! gallons, and It shows th4 affairs of ths company to be In a peculiar state, this report Receiver Black says he found no Journal or ledger or other books generally kept In such offices, and that the office waa In charge of a young lady stenographer. The report further says that he was given a check book and a deposit book, and from these he waa able to get some Informa tion. From September, 1103, to February of this year. Receiver Black says, this book ahows $95,239.20 was deposited and that $13,441.30 was checked out, the checks made payable to cash and In most casts bearing no Indorsements. It la declared In the report that no record of what disposition had been made of this large sum of money Could be found, and that the receiver could And absolutely no books of the com pany which would throw any light upon the disposition of this fund. Receiver Black says that of these loans he has only been able to find $9,969.60 worth. In addition to the check and deposit books, a trial balance hook, with sev eral paces tom out. was found. The fact la recited that In 1906 the comnai returned $22,600 taxes under the head of personal property. It Is declared that In the Interview Mr. Turner said there was no ledger or cash book to show where the money went. According to Receiver Black's report, the liabilities of the company are large, with certificate holders residing all over the Southern section of the country with claims all the way from $100 to $12,000. Dues Are Received. Since he has been In charge of the company’s affairs, he says, many cer tificate holders have sent In their dues, amounting In all to $671.30. Thla money has been placed aside and all have been notified not to pay their dues for Feb ruary and March. * The president of the company was Interviewed by Receiver Black, but he said he knew nothing about the affairs if the concern, and that he was only nominally president. Mr. Turner being secretary and treasurer and having harge of the company. At the hearing before Judge Orr on Friday afternoon. Mr. Turner will be represented by Culberson a. Johnson, while T. J.
