He had been a devout member of the Methodtot church here for a number of pears. The funeral was preached hy Rev. KoMnson. pastor of the Methodist chorrb. Dr. McConnell Is survlvsd bp a wife ud live chUdrtn. For twenty-two years Mark J. Boto' mon. of Savannah, had been endeavor. Ing to be tried for killing Oacar New man. He had been to court regularly twice a year alnce that time, but to his disgust, the case was always post poned for one reason or another. But last August he succeeded In getting the case to trial, sad then he had a sur prise. t He was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to three yean In the penitentiary. Now hi* case la to ba heard before the court of appeals. He denies any guilt. Bolomon engaged In a difficulty with young Newman when they both were boys. To go free through his young manhood, to rise to a responsible posi tion. to be married—and then to be sentenced to prison for an affair of twenty-two yean ago, la enough make s mu think he has a had dream. Shelby Myrlek, ode of Savannah's lesrllng lawyers, ud for she years re corder of that city, arrived In Atlanta Wednesday and will argue the case be fore the Court of appeals. He says It to the queerest suit he ever knew. Mr. Bolomon Is now an engineer on the Atlantic Coast Line. He runs the Florida vestibule, one of the fast trains, and there la no better known engineer on the system. Denies Any Quilt. He died next day. A case waa made against young Bol omon, who strenuously denied that Iff" had cut his opponent The com dragged through the courts ud was never tried until August of last year, twenty-taro yean after the affair. The only evi dence against Mr. Solomon was that of' the father of th* dead bay. He testi fied that his son had told him before, dying that Bolomon had cut him. A conviction was brought In ud the Judge Mnteticed Mr. Solomon to threw years In the penitentiary. A motion, for a new trial waa argued ud n-'' fused.
