pected recovery occurred In futures In
Liverpool which nro about 7 point*
better than due. As thero is no cor
responding Improvement In the volume
of spot sales, this reaction looka rather
artificial. The large professional long
Interest in New York has never had a
proper opportunity to liquidate, and Is
still maneuvering the markets. Prom
ised strong financial aid In London and
Improvement In stocks may have help
ed the optimism. Our market opened
7 to 9 up and was well sustained by
straddle ouylng. The Increase yester.-
day afternoon of the discount on lower
grades makes a widening «»f market
differences probable and augments the
difficulties of delivering cotr»n on con
tracts. This scared shorts und some
short interests, legitimate and other
wise, set out to cover Itself In conse
quence. Generally fair weather pre
vails In the belt, but there are good In
dications for showers In the next 48
hours In the northwestern and north-

The cautions which are given buyers
are being heeded In some Instances,
and orders at today’s prices are being
paid by Jobbers and converters for their
fall requirements. The position of the
silk trade, so far ns manufacturers and
selling agents are concerned. Is much

for the summer are completely sold out
at first hands and the fall ordering Is
strong and well distributed. Among
men’s wear agents it was declared on
Saturday that the week's business had
