WESTERN JOBBERS SHORT
ON STAPLE COTTONS.
The New York Commercial: Evidence
has come to light within the post few
days nnd was accentuated that buyera rep
resenting Western Jobliers are short on
bleached goods and general lines of domes
tic* to an extent that has not been fully
realized In the first-hand mnrket. Proml-
neut representatives of Western jobbing
houses have been making unsuccessful In
quiry for bleached go**!*, half bleached
and staple brown cottons for delivery dur
ing the com lug three months and even
Into the late fall. They have shown no
hesitancy In paying the prices practically
equal to the spot values now named ou
giMHls. In this connection It can l*o men
tloned that Eastern Jobber# have been
more fuccessful lu covering their forward
requirements then the Western contingent,
due solelv to their linvlug been more con
fident In*the steady advance of price. In
a general way. the cotton goods market was
•inlet so far as purchasing from converters
or export brokers was concerned. A few
cutlers-up plrced older# c-n colored goods
suitable for wot king shirts and overalls.
The shortage of white goods for th-» I ml
once of the spring nnd summer season Is
so pronounced that tb-* Importers am! do

advances over their already high price# on
any goods they have to dispose of. The

tea tons, the proposition appeared to be
