of our children and teachers."
In reply to this President L. Z.

that no one Is more clearly aware of
the truth of this statement than the

President Rosser not only admits ths
truth of Dr. Amater's Indictment, but
says that other school buildings ars In
even a worse condition ' tlmn Crew
Street. He says that all of the frame
buildings have outgrown their useful
ness. His statement Is as follows:
The board of education knows as
II, If not better, than anybody else
that the Crew Street School Is not fit
for the purposes for which It Is being
used. Rut that Is not the only schoo
house In the city that Is Insanitary and
unlit for use. There are the Dee Street
School, the Marietta Street School, the
Fair Street School, and the Walker
Street School. They are all worse than
the Crew Street School. In fact, all the
old frame buildings have outgrown
their usefulness.
'As to the board of education not
taking any notice of reports about the
Crew Street School, I wish to call at
tention to the fart that I and other
members of the board went before the
finance committee of the city council
the first part of this year and stated
that some of the school buildings were
unlit for use, were Insanitary, and
disgrace to a civilized community,
made It ns strong as words could have
made It. I believe that In the near fu
ture, perhaps next year, the city coun
cil will give us money to expend on

build the new schools, and at the same
time keep the old buildings In repair.
We erected new buildings because If we
had not, hundreds. If not thousands,
of children would have had no chance
to go to achool at all. We thought the
old frame buildings might last a year
or two longer.
"The fact that the Crew Street School
Is In bad repair Is no news to the board
of education, and the same Is the case
with the other schools I have men
tioned. We are doing the best we can,
and we hare tried to use the money
given u* to the very best advantage of
the city and the people."
