UNION HENS LA Y 2 EGGS
FOR HUNT AT GRANT PARK
At last the union triumphs. ,Two un
ion hens have been secured and two
union eggs, bearing the union label,
are added totho thousands which will bg
hidden In Grant Park Saturday after
noon for ttiejdg egg hunt.
Wade F. Harding, president of th*
Atlanta Typographical Union, has se
cured a promise from the hens that the
eggs will be ready for the hunt. The
two eggs will bear the liplon printing
label and the lucky finders will win
12.60 each, In gold. All they need to
do Is to llnd the eegs bearing the queer
shaned label of the Allied Printing
Trades Council and present them to Mr.
o .. . , dlns The
a poultry
farm Friday. Thousands upon thou
sands of eggs are being boiled In prep
aration for the big bunt. Some of them
are broken In the process, and all these
are enapped up eagerly by the army of
workmen who are putting the park In
shape for the summer. If hard-boiled
eggs, eaten by the doxen, are Indigesti
ble, then the doctors should be kept on
the Jump Friday night.
All through the woods In the park the
eggs wllh.be hidden. Under the grass,
tucked * under stones, hidden in leafy
dells and rugged hillsides, will he eggs
of a thousand colors. The prizes of
fered to finders of certain marked eggs
add materially to the interest, and the
list Is long enough to give everybody
a good chance.

Chicago, April 6.—By the settlement
of the threatened strike on Western
roads the peace envoys achieved a sig
nal victory for the principle of concilia
tion In labor controversies.
In round figures the railroad em
ployees will profit $5,(00.01)0 during the
coming year from the concessions made
by the companies. The number of men
who will gain by th* advanced wago
scales Is-close to 60.000.
•All danger of a tie-up of the rail
roads of the West Is now averted
through an agreement effected late In
the afternoon between the railroad
managers and the train service em
ployees. The pact was arranged by
Chairman Knapp, of the Interstate com
merce commission, and Chairman Neill,
of the department of commerce and
labor. It will be ratified formally to
day. Under the terms of the agreement
the trainmen will receive an advance
In'wages of about 1# per cent or about 2
per cent less thap demanded. The em
ployees waive their nine-hour day re
quest, which never was considered se
riously In tlie negotiations by either
side.
Both sides to the controversy ex
pressed thepi*elv«s as highly pleased
with the work accomplished by the
Federal agents. They spoke without
restriction In praise of the Federal con
ciliation Idea.
I feet safe In saying the railroad
unions altfnys will have regard for the
public Interest," said Chief Garretson,
of the conductors' order, "and they can
not Bubmlt their case. In any contro
versy with the employees, through a
