Thornwell Haynes, of South Caro lina, Is promoted to be a consul general of class 6 (14.000), at Singapore, vice David F, Wilbur, promoted. Mr. Ilaynee Is now a consul of class 6, at Nanking, where he has served one and a half years and previously at Rouen for live years. Edward J. Morion, of Tennessee, ap pointed a coneul of dees 9 (IS,000), at Asuncion, Purnguuy. Chlcngo, April 6.—With a desire to relieve his conscience, Walter Creed,’ hged 19, went to the Harrlon street station last night and to Lieutenant Morror confessed having murdered his. cousin tn St. Louis, where he Is sought by the police. Creed, according to his story, stabbed and wounded Joseph Robbins, uged 27, on Christmas Eve u year ago. Since that time Creed has been In a dozen cities. Holland, wife of tbs late Dr. S. G. Holland, and one of the oldest residents of Atlanta, died at her residence, 86 Park street. West End, Thursday at noon. Mrs. Holland was Miss Mary Bussey before her marriage to Dr. Samuel Hoi. land. She waa not only well acquaint' ed In Atlanta, but was known all over the state. She had a wonderful knowledge of the history of her native state, of Its families and traditions. Two sons survive her, Dr. Frank Hoi- land, one of Atlanta's best physicians, and S. J. Holland, of Chicago. Mrs. Holland resided with her niece. Miss Mary Strother, during the latter part of her life. The funeral Services will be conduct ed Saturday morning at 11 o’clock, the arrangement* hriving been Uelayed un til the arrival of her son from Chicago. The Interment will be In Westvlew cemetery. The Georgia Anti-Saloon League Is keeping the mall clerks busy spreading broadcast throughout the elate let' ters and petitions for aid In the light for the passage of a state prohlbllon bill. Letters are being «nt to every mem. her of tho general assembly asking him to vole for two measures at the forth coming session—the Anti-Jug bill and the State Prohibition bill. After mailing these, the league be gan sending out A petition to ministers and league workers throughout the state. Another form of letter was sent lo "mothers’ wives snd daughters," snd still another to "school boards, teach ere and pupils.’’ Big Petition Expected. It Is hoped by the offlceVs of the league that the petition to be sent to the legislature, asking for state pro hibition, will be signed by a half-mil* lion names or more. A separate peti tion lo being circulated among "bank ers, manufacturers and busnesa men." Resolutions wero adopted st ths lost convention of the Antl-Bsloon League providing for s campaign for state prohibition, and the Icaguo officials arc doing their utmost along this line. The resolution provided that the leg islature be petitioned to call fot*-a spe cial election, the people to decide by their votes whether or not they wanted state prohibition.
