As the pilot of the engine hurled the body of Its victim twenty feet ahead and then crushed Its life out undor the wheels, women screamed and fainted, while many strong men turned away In horror. Mlsa Proboldesky tried to cross the tracks lu front of the train. Mayor Ticdeman Welcomes Visitors Within Gates of Savannah. Special to The Georgian. Savannah, Oa., April 17.—The Oeor gin Medical Association convened here today In annual session at 10 o'clock. The opening session was held at the DeSoto Hotel, President H. H. Martin Introducing Dr. W. F. Pickard, of the First Baptist church, who naked Divine guidance tor the physicians during their stay In Savannah. Mayor aeorge W. Tledemnn deliv ered the address of welcome, which was responded to by Dr. T. D. Coleman. The weloome of the local physicians was delivered by Dr. E. It. Corson. Among those to arrive yesterday waa Dr. R. C. Davis, of Atlanta, represent' Ing the Fifth district. One of the features of the conven tion will be an elaborate banquet at the DeSoto. SAVANNAH REJECTS WORLD'8 WORK PROPOSITION. Special to The Georgian. Savannah, Oa.. April 17.—At a meet ing of Savannah's Jamestown Exposi tion committee It was decided to reject the offer of the World's Work mega tine for a write-up of Snvonneh In their Jamestown Exposition number. The action of the committee is Inter esting In view of the fact that an ef fort la now being made to get Atlanta to buy apace in the magaalne. Sa vannah will, however, have a represen tative at the exposition. In the person of Gordon Sausey, who will advance the city's claims to Intereeted visitors. June ll will be Savannah Day. Nashville, Tenn., April 17.—Through the heroic action, of Pawnee Bill (Ma jor Lillie), the life of Lula Parr, the "broncho buster” for the show, was saved last night during the night pa rade given by the show through the streets of this city. Miss Parr woe riding her favorjte pony. “Taffy," when the animal bolted and threw her. One foot caught In a stirrup and the young blooded horse, overtook the frightened pony and subdued him, saving the life of the young Jady. Matheson, of the Georgia School of Technology, has re turned from a ten-day trip through the East, where he visited in the Interest of the Tech the following Institutions; Harvard. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Boston Tech), Columbia university and Johns Hopkins Uni versity. Dr. Matheson also attended all the sessions of the Southern Ed ucational Conference, recently held at Plnehurst, N. C. IRA 7E MOTHER THREA TENED TO SHOOT YOUNG MAN On being Informed by her 14-year- old daughter, Ola, that she had been Insulted Sunday night by Will Morris, a young man residing at 55 McDonald street, Mrs. Lillie Jones, of 61 McDon ald street, thoroughly enraged, visited the Morris home and threatened to ■hoot the young man. The visit resulted In a lively scene, for. In addition to the threat to shoot, Mrs. Jones Is said to have been curaed by James Morris, a brother of Will Morris. At this Mrs. Jones la said to have threatened to shoot James Morris also. The outcome of all of these Incidents was a trial Wednesday morning In po lice court, Mrs. Jones having cases made against the Morris brothers by Policeman Long. Will Morris denied he had Insulted the Jones girl, pro testing he was only playing with I His case was dismissed, but Jar Morris was fined $3.75 on the charge of abusing Mrs. Jones. Savannah, Oa., April 17.—The coro ner, a deputy sheriff and two newspa per men constituted an expectant par(y which made a hurried trip to the tele of Hope, a suburb of Savannah, yes terday afternoon. Beside the Savan nah Electric Company's tracks, at a point opposite where a car was recently wrecked, waa found a mask and a new grave. The grave proved to be that of a favorite greyhound of A. M. Barbee, proprietor of the Isle of Hope Pavilion and Amueement Company. The pres ence of the mask has not been account, ed for, but It holds qo dread elgnin- canco now. JOS. Lackey, an old and popular member of the po lice force, died Tuesday night at hie residence, 14 srcAfce street. Mr. Lackey had been confined to his home for the past two years and during this time had gradually grown worao. Hie lllneaa dated from a severe electric ■hock received about three years ago, while he was on duty In Mitchell street. Mr. Lackey had been connected with the police department for twenty-four years and was one of Its most faithful officers. He was for a long while on duty In Grant park, and there le u walk In the park that bears his name. Mr. Lackey was n. native of Bartow county. The body will be sent to Carteravllle Thursday morning.
