RAILROADS OFFER
HOSPITAL ANNEX,
Tl
Dr. Longino Objects to Pro
posal of the
Roads.
A proposition of the railroads, ad
vanroil by General Agent J. 6. D.
Thompson, of the Southern, and In
eluding the street railway, to build i
railroad annex to the tfrady hospital,
precipitated a lively discussion at the
meeting of the board of trustees of the
hospital Tuesday afternoon.
Mr. Thompson said the congestion In
the hospital and the frequent lack of
accommodations resulting therefrom
would be overcome If a hospital were
built for railroad patients. He said
only railroad patients would be treated
there, and that the railroads would be
In absolute control.
Councilman Longino could not sea In
this any charity .In the railroads, or any
reason for the city giving the railroads
a piece of land on which to erect a
private hospital, and with which the
city was to have nothing to do.
The proposition was referred to
committee composed of Aldermen
lllrsch, E. W. Martin and J. H. Har
well.
The resignation of Dr. W. S. Elkin
from the visiting staff was read and
accepted with regret. There are flvo
applicants for the vacancies caused by
' the retirement of Dr. Elkin and Dr.
Baird—Drs. McHull, Hardin, Goldsmith.
Klchardson and Armstrong. The ap
plications were referred to the medical
board.
The following physicians received the
highest averages In the examination of
applicants for posltlona on the house
staff and they were elected: C. A. Ste
phens, tV. K. Stewart and C. C. Pearce.
A new position on the house staff was
created and Dr. A. 8. Hargrove was
elected for the place.

The Jeffersonian. Hon. Thomas, E.
Watson’s weekly publication. In the
current tseue, pays Its compliments to
tha story that a truce had been de
clared between Charlea 8. Barrett,
president of the Farmers' Union, and
Harvle Jordan, prealdent of tho South-
ern Cotton Association.
Mr. Watson has tha following to say
about It;
“The Jeffersonian la rejoiced to see.
In The Atlanta Constitution, the state
ment of Hon. R. F. Duckworth denying
the story that Barrett and Jordan havo
burled the hatchet, and that the Farm
ers* Union and Southern Cotton Asso
ciation would henceforth pull together.
“The story was calculated to do
President Barrett and the Farmers
Union great Injury.
"Everybody knows that Harvle Jor
dan Is now running with Wall street
gamblers, ilke Hoadley, and that the
manufacturers are In control of Jor
dan's mongrel association.
“It Is all natural enough for the man
ufacturers to band themselves together
to retain tho special privileges which
they enjoy under the high tariff laws,
but It would be passing strange It the
farmers were so silly as to allow these
beneficiaries of special privilege to con
trol the farmars' organisation also.
“Whenever the manufacturers let
down tha gap for the farmars to enter
the manufacturers' association. It will
b# time enough for the.farmers to take
manufacturers Into their organisation.
“The reports put In circulation by
Harvle Jordan, to the effect that he
and Charles S. Barrett had become
allies, and that .henceforth the Farm
ers’ Union would work In co-operation
with Hoadley'* Southern Cotton As
sociation, turned out to be unfounded,
Just as we predicted that they would.
"Charles Barrett Is an honest man;
as to Harvle Jordan, he Is Just about
as aleak a spy In tko agricultural camp
aa the manufacturers' association could
want.
“When the president of the Southern
Cotton Association has to rely upon
Joa Hoadley fur a certificate of char
acter, It Is high time for the farmers
to catch on to the game.

stipation, Indigestion and Dyspepsia.
"Jordan la nothing In the world but
the tool of Wall street cotton gam
blers and tha special privilege manu
facturers.
“The Farmers’ Union wants to steer
clear of all entangling alliances. Least
of all does It want a auspicious connec
tion with a mongrel association which
Harvle Jordan has discredited and de
moralized.
"Surely the farmers are entitled to
have one aeaoclatlon of their own.
"The Southern Cotton Association,
"Prostituted by Jordan, It Is no more
than a sidetrack movement of the man
ufacturers' association.”
