Zion In Carroll county. Mrs. Mitchell alleges that ehe 1* a niece of Rev. James Mitchell, deceas ed; that he was a close personal friend of Mr. Egelston, and that the latter be fore he died expressed a wish to do something for the petitioner because of his friendship for her uncle, and ac cordingly gave her lot No. 8. which waa a part of his property In West End. The petitioner alleges that Mr. Egel ston died before he could execute a deed to the property, but that he In formed Mr. Scott of the dlspoeltlon die wished to make of It. She alleges that Mr. Scott la advertising ths same for sale and accordingly filed the,peti tion In order that the court might pass upon her right to It. The petition Is set for a Anal hearing on May 11. Attorney R. L. Rodgers represents the plaintiff. SOLD ROAD TO . SIDESTEP WALL ST. r Chicago. May 3.—An explanation as to the reason for selling a controlling Interest In the Burlington railroad to Janies J. Hill some time ago was given In a letter to Vice President B. Wil lard from former President C. E. Perkins. He said the road was sold to Hill to keep It from falling Into the bands of Wall street speculator* INSURANCE LICENSES ARE AGAIN DISCUSSED The tax committee of council met again Thursday afternoon, again dis cussed and heard discussed the ques tion of raising the license for Insur ance brokers, and again adjourned without having reached a final deci sion. The committee haa Increased the li cense tax tb 8200. This raised a storm of protest from Insurance broker*. Thuraday afternoon W. P. PattlUo and C. C. Hatcher declared the broker a free lance, and asked that the high li cense be adhered to. W. T. Wynn, an Insurance commis sion worker, declared a 8800 license tax exorbitant, and likely to drive him out of business. When this was said Mr. Hatcher Im mediately offered Mr. Wynn 81,600 to come with him, and said he would pay all the licenses. This was refused, and Mr. Hatcher offered 81.800, which was also turned down. The Atlanta Hotel Men's Association was represented at the meeting. The hotel men objected to a raise over the present license tax of 850. The com mittee Is considering a graded tax for hotels, running from 885 for 85 rooms or less, up to 8150 for 200 rooms or more. The license for labor agents was fixed at 8800, no license to run for less than a full year, and none to be trans ferable. MURDERER OF AGED COUPLE IS LODGED IN PRISON. Special to The Georgian.
