"Thcro, Httlo girl, don't cry; thoy havo
broken your heart, I know;
And tho wild, glad gleams of your
schoolgirl dreams aro things of tho
long ago.
But heaven holds all for which you
sigh;
There, little girl, don't cry.”
It Is very easy to mistake heartache
for heartbreak when ono Is eighteen
and tho "only man In the world" has
proved false. Tho pain la very real
whllo It lasts, and It carries In Its wake
disillusionment, which Is a sad ex
perience for any girl to suffer.
Tho newspapers told of a woman the
other day who, because she had been
Jilted In her .youth, never spoko to a
man again as long as she lived. Sho
was not big enough to rise above on*
man's perildy and Judged all hls sex
by him.
Thero are very few women who go
through life without a fair sharo of
heartache, and It can usually bo laid
to some man's account. But 'bocause
ono man has disappointed you It Is not
fair to assume that all men are as un-
sltlsfactory as he.
Very often the man who moots all
your requirements nt eighteen would
not suit you at all a few years later.
But you feel that your heart 1* broken
when he proves false to you, and you
think that the sun will never shin*
again, and wonder If Ufa Is worth liv
ing, and shed a great many tears.
It all stems vory like heartbreak,
but It Isn't, and when Mr. Right comes
along sho finds that it 1b ready to for
get that another man ever existed.
SEVEN DROWNED,
SIX STILL MISSING,
Official Announcement That)
All Other Passengers
v * Were Saved.
Montevideo, Uruguay, May 9.—The gov.;
eminent announced that all tho persons on!
board tbe French steamship Poitou, ashom
off Jose Ignacio, hsvo boon rescusd with
tho exception of seven, known to havo been
drowned snd six n-bo-sre still tnlislng.
LOVE,
Httlo girls, but It Isn't; it Is only dis
appointment and hurt pride, and per
haps a certain amount of heartache;
but that’s a long way from ham
break.
And always remember that though
one young man has proved himself to
be fickle and heartless, thero are thou
sands of splendid, manly young men
left, and one of them Is the right man
for you, and he is coming to you
straight and sure as sunlight to the
heart of a tlower.
Don’t let the porfldy of any man lum
you Into a bitter, cynical woman. Have
your little weep ovor disappointed
hope*, but be brave and sweet and rise
above your disappointment
There are many men worth living
for, but there are none worth spoiling
your naturo for.
A cynical, embittered woman gets no
joy out of life for herself and brings
no joy Into the life of any onu else.
Just because her own love afTalr has
gone wrong she looks on all love with
ircjudlced eyes. It la because of this
ilttemesa and prejudice that no man
cares to revive hls faith In mankind
and love.
Occasionally a foolish, little, griev
ing girl will write and tell me that
her heart Is broken and that she feel*
like committing suicide.
And the papers constantly .tell us of
girls who have actually taken tbelr
Ives because they have been disap
pointed In love.
Poor, mistaken children! If they
could only eee far enough ahead to
realise that in a few years not only will
their wounds be healed, but almost for
gotten!
Try and be big enough, girls, to take
our suffering bravely; time Is bound
.o help It. and the day Is sure to come
when you will look back and thank Trouble Ahead,
the kind fate that kept you from mar
rying the man who once had the power
to thrill you so.
There Is not one woman In a hun
dred you know who marries the first
man she fancies herself In love with,
though that fact does not keep her
from suffering some very keen pangs >r * yo0 '
on hls account nippouc you cus,
Ehe may think her heart Is broken, gntei" ....
(Dedicated to “My Little Georgia
Rose.")
Wero I a sweet bird singer,
A singer of world renown,
I'd fly away to your window at night
When shadows come flitting down.
I’d sing to you of "Home, Sweet Home."
Of “a homo not modo with hands/
Where I hopo to dwell, eternally,
With you In the angels' band.
In the long ago X loved you.
And, alas! 1 love you yet;
“Love Is not lovo that alters,"
Love Is not lovo wo forget,
love—a thing delightful.
Love—the things that live.
Love—tbs soul Immortal,
Which God alono can give.
