Macon, Oa., May 10.—Word was re
celved yesterday of the death of Prl
rate Henry Hamilton, of the Nine
teenth coast artillery, at Fort Cars
well, N. C. The menage was received
by the United States army officer In
charge of the Macon recruiting office.
It stated that Prtvato Hamilton had
been shot and killed. The nearest
relative given was Mary E. Collins, of
this city. MiVon's city directory does
not give the name of Mary E. Collins,
and the authorities In this city are
looking Into the matter.
MACON ELKS TO ATTEND
CONVENTION AT ROME.

Macon, Oa., May 10.—At least one
hundred and fifty Macon Elks will at
tend tha annual slate convention held
next week at Rome. They have all ee
cured beautiful uniforms and will be
handed by Guttenberger's Ihlrty-flve
piece band. Tha Elks from Mllledge-
villa and Albany will meet the Elks of
Macon, and all leave this city on a spe-
dul train for Rome.

ness of only two days, Mrs. W. M.
Tomlinson, aged (8 year a, dlad yeater

DEAD AT DOTHAN
Tho sudden death In Texas of John
Thomas Thresher, of Dothan, Ala., was
announced Thursday afternoon In a
telegram received by Mr. and Mr*. Wil
liam McCarthy, the latter a daughter of
Mr. Thrashor.
The telegram announced the third
death In the family connection within
the last week. It was received while
Mr. and Mrs. McCarthy were at th*
home of Mr. and Mra. John K. Ottley,
and a ahort while before they were to
havf departed for Columbus, Mis*.,
where they were summoned for the
funeral of Dr. Charles Ottley. The lat
ter was a brother of Eugeno M. Ottley,
whose death occurred In Atlanta on
May 1.
Mr. and Mr*. McCarthy left Thurs
day night for Dothan, where the body
of Mr. Thrasher will be Interred.

CORNER STONE IS LAID
FOR METHODIST CHURCH.

Monroe. Oa', May 10.—Last Monday
evening the corner atone of the new
Methodist church was laid with Ma
sonic ceremony, which was conducted
by Renjamln J. Edwards, acting as
grand master. The church le centrally
located on Brood street, and, together
with Ite furnishings and the lot on
which It Is situate*, will cost about
215,000. Music for the occasion was
furnished by the church choir, which is
one of the best In the state. There was
a large attendance.
Rev. n. M. Eakes Is the present pas
tor of the church.
