Augusta, -Ga|, May I#.—After at tempting tho life of his young daugh ter, Henry Chipman, twice tried to kill himself In the police barrack* between 6 and 8 o'clock last evening. Shortly after being locked up tnado the first attempt by hanging himself with the leather belt which held up his trousers. He was cut down lust In time and the belt taken away. Less than an hour from that time tho Jailer passed down the cor ridor and found Chipman gasping ho slowly twisted a heavy cotton han kerchief about .hi* neck. Special to The Georgian. Macon, Ga., May 10.—Engineer John N. Norris was killed and Engineer L. Ople and Brakeman Spain were slightly Injured In a head-on collision between a regular and an extra freight train on the Central railroad two miles south of Gordon yesterday. The freight was behind and through some misunderstanding Engineer Nor ris drove his engine into the death trap, He was removed from his post shortly after the accident, scalded and cruehed. Over half of both train* was con- crt.il Into a mass of wreckage and trulllc was badly tied up. The remains of the dead man and tho injured persons were brought to Mucon.
