federate veteran, died Wednesday afternoon
at the borne of his son. Daniel P. Durham,
261 South Boulevard, aged 68 years. He had
been In declining health for aome time, and

Mr. Durham was born near Decatur on
August 12, 1838, nnd shortly before the. war
moved to Pine Bluff, Ark. At the flrat call
for troops, Mr. Durham enlisted In the First
Arknnsns regiment, nnd went with that
regiment to Mnunssas and participated In
that engagement.
After that, Mr. Durham was In the West
ern army, nnd wns In the tattle nt Look
out Mountain under General Pat Clelionrne.

IN PENNSYLVANIA
Corey, Pa., May 16.—A foreat firo
which started last Monday In the pine
forests of Venango county, near Presi
dent. a small town near Oil City, haa
raged Incessantly. Ten square miles
of pine and hemlock forests have gone
up In smoke. Onb hundred thousand,
dollars' worth of timber has been de
stroyed. .. . •
Fearing that the flames, which were
spreading both northeast and north
west, would destroy derricks and feed
wells, the managers of tho different ill
and gas companies ordered nil th'lr
men to the scene. An army of men Ih
fighting the flames. The worst danger
Is past.
