HOW TO TALLY UP HITS AND
ERRORS ON BATTER AND FIELDER
The scoring of base hits la largely a matter of judgment on the part
or the scorer, says Bozeman Bulger, In The New York Evening World.
The fact that the fielder does or does not get his hands on a ball
ha " no imperative bearing upon the scoring of a hit. Use your common
tense.
As the ‘ Interested fan" suggests: “You frequently hear spectators say
that grounder did go through his legs, but as hts hands didn't
jjjfch the ball he can't be given an error, and the batter must get a

Southern acorere seldom charge a fielder with an error unless he gets
hands on the boll.

The Advantages Th;sstorehas
to offer are Lowest Prices, Prompt
Delivery, Complete Stocks,, Fresh
Goods. Personal attention of the
proprietors to the business entrusted
to us. It has been our polity always
to sell drugs, medicines and everything
in our line at the prices we considered
proper and right, and have done so
with but few exceptions. These ex
ceptions were due to the stringent con
tracts of manufacturers. These con
tracts now having been withdrawn or
cancelled, we are in position to offer
you these goods at the price we think
they should be sold for.
Birmingham, Ala., May 17.—Blrming-
I ham la still In the market for a new
| shortstop and a new third baseman.
It Is evident that Montgomery Is
I not supplied with goods In a sufficient
quantity to warrant his continued per
formance on third. He cannot hit the
ball. It Is thought that hla recent III
I ness, the effect of which settled in his
I eyes,-was the cause of his horrid slump.
He la hitting the ball at a very alow
gait.
It Is generally whispered that Oyler,
the fastest shortstop of the league last
season, la all in. Oyler. before the
I opening of the season, sustained an In
jury tq hla leg, and since, has done
nothing. His work Is exceedingly In
ferior, both In the held, and at the
| stick.
The pitchers are going at their old-
time gait, and are twirling ball that
should win with proper support. The
team Is hitting ,2it, but fielding at the
low rato of .917.
| UNION POINT LOSES
TO WASHINGTON TEAM
I Special to The Georgian.
Washington, Ga., May 17.—In one of
I the prettiest games of ball played on
I the Union Point diamond this year
Washington defeated the strong Union
Point team here yesterday by the acore
| of 14 to 9.
Durham, the star southpaw of Union
I Point, was batted hard. He was re-
I lleved In the sixth inning by Davis, who
I held the Washington boys down to' 4
hits. Calley, the Washington star
twlrler, fanned 18 of Union Point’s best
I batters, and gave up only 7 hits. He
was a puzzle from beginning to end.
The feature of the game was the
splendid battery work of Calley and
Blnns, and the batting of F. Fllllnglm
| and Johnson.

There’s a vast difference in men’s underwear and hosiery
aud it’s in our favor.
Quality and diversity are two factors in these things as im
portant as prices.
So with price consideration well in mind we bend every effort
in linking together these essentials of a well-regulated men’s fur
nishings stock. .
We are constantly trying to give a little better value and
a little lower price.
Results show how well we have succeeded.

CINCH ON TRACK MEET.
The Southern Inter-collegiate Athlet
ic Association’s track and Held cham
pionship, which Is slated for Saturday
at Nashville, Is likely to be something
of a frost.
When the Georgia schools dropped
out there was little left but Vanderbilt,
and, as usual, the Commodores will run
away with the meet by a good score.
In fact, it Is to be feared that the
meet will practically degenerate into
an alt-Vanderbllt affair, for there are
not likely to be many outside entries.
