Indlanapolla, Ind., May 31.—Prealdent
Roosevelt appeared on the lawn of the
Falrbanka home yesterday afternoon
and was photographed with Vice Pres-
ldent Fairbanks, Senator Hemenway
Governor Hanlon and Secretary Loeb.
Several children from the neighbor
hood were cordially greeted by the
prealdent. Later In the afternoon the
president, vice president and Secretary
Loeb were driven to Crown Hill ceme
tery, where President Roosevelt depos
ited a galaxla wreath on the grave of
ex-Presldent Benjamin Harrison.
The wreath was brought from Wash,
lngton for the purpose.
Tech Men Wanted.
Applications arc coming constantly
to President Matheson, of the Georgia
School of .Technology, for graduates of
that Institution. Recently the Westing-
house electrical people have asked for
eight graduates of the school. These
young men are taken Into the great
establishment and after receiving the
proper training ara sent out to the va
rious offices of the firm to toko charge
of them. Tech graduates have no trou
ble In securing good positions.

FOUND UNDER HOUSE
Whilo searching Thursday-night for
Elisha Hood, a 13-year-qld negro boy,
accused of burglary. Bailiff Miller, of
Justice of the Peace Klngsbery's court,
discovered a veritable den of negro boy
criminals In the rear of North Pryor
street, near the Marlon Hotel.
This nest of Juvenile vice Is situated
underneath an old building used by an
automobile company, and is said to be
the rendezvous of a number of boyish
crooks. Some old worn and dirty mat
tresses, on which the boys sleep, are
scattered about In the den and form
l(a only furnishings.
Elisha Hood was taken Into custody
by Bailiff Miller and Is held behind the
bars of the Tower. He will be given a
preliminary hearing Saturday afternoon
before Judge Klngsbery.
The boy Is said to have confessed
to Bailiff Miller, stating that whenever
the gang would run short of money the
members would snatch pocketbooks and
commit other such offenses. The of
ficers have been unable so far to trap
ly other members of the gang.
Hood Is accused of burglarizing a
house at 177 Littlejohn stree£.

After being a familiar figure on the
streets of Atlanta .and becoming as
well known as the prominent politi
cians. William Jasper Fronklyn, better
known as plain Jap Fronklyn, will

No more will he sell his apples from
his'wagon, and he and hli goat and
wagon will disappear from view.
For twenty years or more Jap Frank-
lyn has peddled and panhandled on At
lanta's streets. For some years he
merely squatted on the ground, and
then be secured a goat and wagon and
wo* known as the "goat man.” Then
he got an old horse and a small wagon
and he became known also as the "ap
ple man." In addition to apples, he
had a small stock of lead pencils, which
helped the charitably Inclined tq be
come separated from their money.
He has been living with his sister.
Mrs. M. C. Brockman, of 18 Ezxard
street, and as she is unable to take
care of him, and as he Is anxious to
end hi* days In the poor house, he will
be sent there probably on Monday.
TROLLEY WIRE FELL
IN CROWDED STREET
The lives of many shoppers were
menaced and considerable excitement
was caused Thursday afternoon In
Whitehall attest, near Hunter, when a
trolley wire fell to the ground and car
ried out a program of sputtering and
slzxllng.
At the time, there were hundreds of
people In the vicinity, despite the
threatening weather, end when the trol
ley wire fell there was a wild scramble
to get out of reach of the wire. The
wire fastened Itoelf upon one of the
rails and while It sent forth a weird
flame. It pertly melted one of the rolls.
This Is the third time within the past
few- days that trolley wires have fallen
in the streets. . . .
ATLANTANS WILL GO
TO CHARITY MEETING
When the national Conference of
Charities and Corrections meets next
month In Minneapolis, the strongest
delegation that has ever been sent to a
meeting of this kind will fee present
from Atlanta.
Next week three city officials snd a
delegation from the Associated Chari
ties will leave Atlanta and will take a
prominent part In the deliberations of
the conference. From the city govern
ment City Warden Evans and Proba
tion Officer Oloer will go. while Dr. T.
D. Longlno, councilman from the
Eighth ward, will represent both the
city and tbe state aa Governor Ter
rell's representative. Secretary J. C.
Logan and Miss Rebecca Raoul will go
from the Associated Charities.
Secretary Logan will open the dls-
cuslson on the relation of Intemper
ance and dependency, while Miss Raoul
and the city officials will also take part
In the various discussions.
The conference will be one of the
moat distinguished gathering of philan
thropists In the country and there will
be over 1,600 delegates present.

nic of the Second Baptist church will
be held Friday at North Highland
park. Arrangements have been made

The announcement that the skating
rink In the St. Nicholas Auditorium,
which has been dosed to the skater*
this Week on account of th* .buildings
being used for the May-Junc Music
Festival, will again be thrown open to
the skater* on Monday to remain open
for the remainder of the season, will
be greeted with pleasure by the ska
ter* In Atlanta.
When Monday morning comes all of
th* seat* will hare been removed and
the floor In excellent condition for the
skaters. In addition to this the huge
orchestrion described In The Georgian
of last Saturday will be In operation.

The popularity of beautiful Ponce
DeLeon park Is Increasing dally. Hun
dreds of rest-seeking people have found
refreshment at the resort, where com
fort and convenience le so thoroughly

have been established that have added
wonderfully to the magnetism of the
decidedly lovely place.
