Simmons, mother of Dr. Sim mon* tendereil her elderly friends a charming entertainment from 4 to 6 o'clock Monday afternoon. Annually, early In May, Mr*. Simmon* gives this affair, which she dubs her "Grandmoth er’s Party." and alway* It I* one of the most enjoyable given at Shorter Col lege. About thirty gentlewomen graced the occasion. The happiest feature of the afternoon was Mrs. Simmons' sing ing of many .old songs dear to memory. The week was largely given over to the Elks, and Rome’s hospitality was unstinted. A number of Elk* brought their ladle* to the annual meet and they were royally entertained. Mrs. R. A. Denny, a* the wife of the exalted ruler of the state, entertalne] the visiting ladles Wednesday after noon from 4 to. 6 o'clock. Her attrac tive home was handsomely decorated with a quantity of roses, pnd the .nctlf of purple and white predominated. The hostess combined the rich tones in her dainty gown. Mrs. McIntosh, of Al bany; Mr*. Barnes, of Mllledgevl'le; Mrs. Brooks, of Augusta, stood with the hostess In the parlor, while Mes- riatnes Ida Nevln Patton, Alvin Dean, Walker Curry and Miss Rosa Gammon entertained the guests. About one hundred and fifty guests were present. Mrs. B. F. Roark was hostess to the Bridge Whist Club Saturday afternoon and the company consisted only of ’.he limited membership of eight. Mr. Hutchinson, of Atlanta, will preach the commencement sermon at the Baptist rhurch Sunday. The “Popular Parson,” a play given by the Dallas Thespian Society re cently, was a great success, both artis tically and financially. Spinks has returned from a business trip to Atlanta, Villa Rica and Acworth. The revival at the Methodist church closed Tuesday night.
