TEMPERANCE RALLY IS ADDRESSED BY REV, m STUART' Cartersville People Effect Organization to Carry; on Campaign. _ v Special to The Georgian. Cartersville, Ga., June 3.—Notwlthe standing the threatening clouds and the cold atmosphere yesterday, there was a large and enthusiastic gathering ] of representative cltlsens of Bartow county and Cartereville at the Taber nacle to hear Rev. George R. Stuart preach a temperance sermon upon the local prohibition fight. On account of the coldness of the weather, Mr. Stuart : was forced to deliver bis temperance lecture In tho afternoon at the court house, which building was packed to Its utmost capacity. Mr. Stuart spoke with great forco and earnestness, and his talk Is said by many to have had a wonderful effect upon hts hearers, a number of people who were undecided upon the local Issue leaving the court house after the lecture with their minds made up to vote for prohllbtlon. J. B. Richards, of Atlanta, secretary of the Georgia Anti-Saloon League, appeared In the city yesterday, bring ing with him a number of circulars containing a lengthy editorial, which is said to have appeared In an Atlanta paper In 1387, and which Bhowed by alleged facts and figures that Atlanta had prospered under the prohibition rule. The article ends with on un qualified statement that liquor Is not necessary to the growth and prosperity of a city the size of Atlanta. Tho above circular Is being freely used by the prohibition people here, and a great deal of discussion and amusement has arisen over the fact that tho dntl- > prohibitionists are using an editorial from the same paper, tiut of later date. The prohibition people are very much encouraged over the outlook hern since the address of Mr. Stuart, and have completed organisation of the forces In Cartersvllls with which to fight the whisky peoplt. Tho work of organizing the county will be taken up this week, and many speeches will bo made, covering every voting precinct In Bartow oounty, with a view to thor- J ough organisation. There Is little doubt i expressed as to Cartsrsvllls’s sentiment < upon the question by the prohibition people, but It Is said that good work . will be needed In some of tho outlying district! of the county, where the Im pression has gotten abroad that should * the people vote against liquor In the coming (lection. It will be Impossible for them to secure It and havo It ehlp- , ped to them here. j Rev. Walt Holcomb will speak to a mass meeting In CaasvHle this even- 1 Ing.
