/ THE ATLANTA GEORGIAN AND NEWS. •rnrnsDAT. jc.vh u. imt. SOCIETY... Mrs! George C. Bill, Editor. IMP OF DREAMS. Imp of Dream*, when *he'« a*leep. To her snowy chamber creep, And straight whisper In her ear What, awake, she will not hear— Imp of Dreams, when she's asleep. Tell her, so she may repent, That no rose withholds Its scent, That no bird that has a song Hoards the music summer-long— Tell her, so she may repent. Tell her there’s naught else to do. If tomorrow's skies be blue, But to come with civil speech. And walk with me to Hampton Beach— Tell her there's naught else to do! Tell her, so she may repent— Imp of Dreams, when she's asleep. —Thomas Bailey Aldrich. MI88 LOGAN'S EUCHRE. AMERICAN WOMlN IN MEN'S WORK, Married women, of course, have al ways done their share of the world's work. Indeed, It Is open to argument whether they have not done more than their fair shure of It. It Is doubtless true that If upon men. as we now know them, were euddenly developed the burdens of child-bearing and child rearing, to say nothing of the cares of the household, families would be con siderably smaller than they now are. It Is certain that married women, who have discharged the duties of materni ty, linvo never been "supported” by men In any Just sense of the word 'support." Nay. If all men. married anil single, were to labor every' hour of the day, they could not do nil the work of the world. A few worthless women, married or single, there may be, but even they are not so much supported by the men of their families as by the overwork of the "sweated" women at Embroidery Sale! From creation's dawn women have per formed their full quota of the world's work; and usually they have not been paid for It. Unpaid work, however, set. dom commands respect. It Is the paid female worker who has brought home to the public mind conviction of wom an’s worth >n the world's economy. The spinning and weaving .done by our great-grandmothers In thblr respective homes were not reckoned as a contrlbu. tion to a nation's wealth until the work was transferred to factories and there organized; to factories, where the women have pursued a particular call ing. It Is undoubtedly the women of the Industrial class, the wage-earners, reckoned no longer by units, but by hundreds of thousands, the women whose work has been submitted to money test, that have been the means of .bringing about the altered attitude cf public opinion toward woman's work In every sphere of life.—Harper's Weekly.
