Vew York, June 25.-At the outset thli
morning the lociil cotton market showed an
advance of 2 to 12 points, the near months
leading, but after the call the entire list
turned easier under heavy profit-taking. The
weather In the belt continued favorable.
Kellers for short account were cautious.

Liverpool advices were encouraging Tues
day morning, being somewhat better than
due at the opening for futures and clos
ing firm 5©9 points higher.

In the spot department a

The New York market for futures opened
2312 points higher, but Immediately turned
downward on neavy profit-taking and con
tinued favorable weather In the belt At
noon, the Improvement had been lost, prices
nt that hour selling at about even with
Monday’s closing, except for August, which
was 10 points higher on manipulation.

rain and low temperatures prevailed.
Following is a summary of the report
The mean temperature for the week varied
but slightly from the normal, being 1 to 2
decrees above normal In some localities
and 1 to 2 degrees below normal In other
portions of the cotton region. Rain fell In
nil portions of the cotton region except lu
southern Georgia, the extreme eastern por*
tlon of Texas and nt a few places In Louisi
ana. Mississippi and Arkansas. The weekly
rainfall was less than one Inch except that
there wns more than one Inch over the
northwestern portion of east Texas and
the western portion of Oklahoma, and there
was more than two Inches at several sta
tions.
Pearsall bought the first bale of new
cotton at 40c a pound at 12 o’clock. Sold
at the New York Cotton Exchange.
Trading In the afternoon wns at firm and
steadily advancing prices, the close Jjelng
net 9 to 23 points higher, the latter for Au
gust.

Fort Worth, Tex., June 25,—Weevil re-
torts gloomy from east nnd south Texas,
’alked to several reliable parties. Snw the
crop from Wnco to Fort Worth, about 100
miles. It Is the lowest average ever seen
for June 24, and much of the crop badly !u
grass and weeds. A great deal of cotton not
over one to two inches high.

ports today, compared with the same day

a favorable one for their products. On
staple silks In blnck and regular shades,
the Jobbers are taking the largest volume
of merchandise they have hnndled In years.
Jobbers are prepared to hold their clear
ance sales, and from tomorrow until Sat
urday the buyers who come to town will
find many attractive offerings. Cottons
moved steadily Saturday, hut not In , ns
large volume as on the earlier days of tho
week. Especially on brown staple cottons
the transactions were limited uy an ab
sence of spot or nearby goods.

In consequence of the steadier tone In
cotton, prices on nil print cloth yarn con
struction goods were well maintained dur
ing tho few trading hours Saturday. The
district was deserted by 12 o’clock, but In
the morning orders had been put through
on wide goods nnd narrow odds. Through
out the psst week values have been on a
basis of 41516c for regular* and 7®7%c for
wide standards. The market will open this
morning with sellers In command of the
situation.

age came from that section of Illinois lying

of bugs in numerous quantities In two Im
portant districts In Iowa, but most of tho
claims from tint state were good. The
break in July oats as well as the decline of

considerably. Some went so far as to-lmplr
that Patten was responsible for it. Afford
ing to the popular Impression, he was offer-

Amalgamated Cooper Is sold out, and It

should get ready soon to advance to dis
count the July 10 crop report, for the Invest
ment absorption of elf has reduced the

REPORT ON WEATHER.
New York, June 26.—-The change
which came over the market In the last
few minutes of yesterd&y'a dealings
was more strikingly apparent In the
declines today. There was a sudden
and remarkable Increase In activity,
and a sharp advance in prices all
through the lilt, for which the Inside
conditions of the market Itself were
chiefly responsible. It Is evident that
all the stocks that .could be shaken out
by the numerous uncertainties of the
financial outlook have been shaken out,
and that under no ordinary circum
stances would any more be offered for
sale at the recent low prices. The
course of prices throughout the fore
noon was steadily upward and by mid
day the trading Issues showed gains of
a point to a point and a half over l£st

Chicago, June 25.—James A. Fatten,
the big bear of the wheat pit, filled up
all the bulls In that market today and
trimmed the edgea off the price. There
waa poor support at the declines estab
Relied. Wheat closed, 1-4 to 1-2C high
cr, but l-2c off from the best price
reached for the day. Corn was 1-8®
l-4c better, oats were l-8@8-4c lower
and .provisions 10@35c higher.
There was a touch of weakness In
the wheat market early on favorable
weather reports from the northwest,
but the tone later became stronger and
advances were easily made.
The trade In corn was small, with
somo little selling by cash houses, and
the market absorbed It poorly. Weath
er was Ideal for the growing crop. Cash
trade not so good as for several pre-
vlous days. There was further selling
of oata on country account, and some
large lines held locally that went over,
board. Crop news favorable. >
Provisions showed more life and the
feeling was stronger. Shorts and pack
ers were buyers.
