Macon, Ga.. June £6.—Wild excite
ment prevailed In Macon last night
when it was reported that five persona,
three women and two men, all white,
had been arrested and landed In the
Bibb county Jail, charged with the mur
der of Arthur Dyche, who was found
dead last Friday night.
Sheriff Kobertson and hie bunch of
deputies are now hard at work on the
case, and from the present Indications
are In high hopes of landing the slayer
of Dyche within the next twenty-four
hours.
The woman who so many people In
the city claim Dyche was mixed up
with has left the city, and the police
authorities in all surrounding cities
have been sent descriptions of her and
orders to arrest her on sight.
It Is generally believed that when
this woman Is caught the greater part
of the mysterious murder will be clear
ed away.

were shooting within the city limit*
last night. Policeman Allen Owyna was
shot in the arm by an unknown miner,
and John Powell, a miner from Mingo,
Tenn., was ahot In the head and hip.
Ho will probably die.

AFTER LONG ILLNESS.

Macon, Ga., Juno 28.—After a linger
ing Illness of more than a year, Mrs.
Julia Bealle Bronaon died yesterday at
the family residence, 820 Coleman ave
nue. Mrs. Bronson was tho wife of J.
I. Bronson, commercial agent for the
M., D. A 8. railroad, and is survived by
two children, J. I. Bronson, Jr., and
Miss Julia Bronson. Mrs. Bronson was
a devoted member of the Tatnall Square
Baptist church. The funeral services
were held from the late residence.

services of the late Mrs. Buth Northrop,
who died on Friday evening, last, were
held from St. Pauls church, Rev. J. C.
Lawrence, of Amerlcus, officiating. The
Interment was made In Bose Hill cem
etery.

FATHER OF DEAD MAN

Macon. Ga, June 18.—R. B. Dyche,
of Monroe county, father of Arthur
Dyche, the young mnn who waa mur
dered on Friday night last, near Pleas
ant Hill, was yesterday afternoon shot
through the palm of his right hand.
.Just how Mr. Dyche received the shot
j la not known, ns he has refused to
make any statement In regard to tha
nffnlr. Mr. Dyche came to Macon on
Saturday night last to attend the fu
neral services of his ion. Yesterday
Sheriff Robertson sent Dyche out In the
neighborhood to eeoure several Impor
tant witnesses In tho case, and Dyche
returned to tho city with the bullet
wound through the palm of his hand.
He Is now cnnflned In the city hospital.
BIG BRICK FACTORY
IS PLANNED AT MACON.

Macon, Ga., Juno 26.—Equipped with
new process which will cause Im
portant changes In the manufacture of
brick and commanding nmpla capital, a
number of Macon men are planning to
begin a mammoth brick factory which
will probably make this city the leading
brick manufacturing center In tho
country. The proposed company lias at
Its command a large amount of capital
and Is content to begin work with that
amount.
As soon as the company Is organised
the names of the promoters will be an
nounced.

Columbus, Ga., June 26.—Sanford
Early, the negro charged with shooting
Hal Brewster on an excursion train
near LaGrange, Ga., Monday, was
brought hers yesterday afternoon by
Deputy Sheriff Fuller, of Meriwether
county, and .the marshal at Greenville,
Ga. He wag placed In Jail here for
safe-keeping, threats of lynching hav
ing been made in LaOrange.
BIBB REPRESENTATIVES TO
WORK FOR ANTI-FEE BILL.

Macon, Ga., June 26.—Ben S. Fowler,
Joseph H. Hall and Edward Ryals left
last night for Atlanta, to attend the
session of the Georgia legislature, and
to represent Bibb county In that body.
Hon. T. 8. Felder, the senator of this
district, Is already In Atlanta. Ha has
been In Atlanta for several days.
It Is very probable that there will be
a Joint bill by £.11 three of ths Bibb
county representatives requiring the
officials of Bibb county, and all other
counties for that matter, to keep
record of the amount of fees collected
In their offices. The representatives of
Bibb county have expressed themselves
very strongly In favor of such a meas
ure, and ths people are looking to them
to take prompt action along this line.

Macon, Go., June 16.—News was re
ceived In Macon yesterday of ths death
of R. P. Mulholland, who for ths past
several years has been living at Merid
ian, Miss. Mr. Mulholland was for a
long number of years employed by the
Macon Gas Light and Water Company
and has hundreds of friends In this
city who have learned with sorrow of
his death. He Is survived by four chll-
dren, two sons, R. P„ Jr., and Francis,
and two daughters, Misses Nellis and
Sadie Mulholland, all living In this city.

thnt she wns leaving a street car at the
union station and had started across
the street, when, without wnrnlng, sho
was struck by Mr. Small's machine.

PRACTICE FOR CONTEST.

bar* of the Macon Volunteers have
qualified os marksmen and two aa ex
pert marksmen. This means that Ma
con will give tho other military com

Abbeville, S. C., June 26.—L. W, Per.
rln dropped dead yesterday afternoon
at 6 o’clock at a ball game being played
by Abbeville and Greenwood. Ho wns
sluing In a buggy keeping score, when
suddenly ho fell over against W. 8.
Cothran, his nephew, who was In the
buggy with him, and died in a mo.
ment. Two of his sons were playing in
the game.
Mr. Perrin was the oldest member of
the Abbeville bar, and for years had
been master of Abbeville county. Ha
wns the oldest elder In the Presbyte
rian chUrch and a Confederate veteran.
He was In his sixty-seventh year. He
leaves a wife and six children. His
children are: Robert McC. Perrin, of
New Orleans, La.; Thomas C. Perrin,
of Atlanta; L. W. Perrin, Jr., William
Perrin and Mrs. T. Gordon White, of
Abbeville, and Mrs. Aug W. Smith, of
Spartanburg, S. C.

Donalsonvllle, Ga., June 26.—An at
tempt was made by Will Grover, a
young negro, to assault Miss Mary
Harris, a young lady residing In tho
suburbs of this city, last night Just
after midnight.
Grover was formerly In the employ
of Miss Harris' father, W. J. Harris,
but was discharged a few days ago.
He was familiar with the surroundings
of ths home, and last night he first
broke Into the kitchen, got something
to eat and a chair. He carried the
chair to'the window of Miss Harris'
room, climbed In and when he
proached she was awakened and begnn
screaming. The negro was frightened
away. While making his escape he waa
seen and recognised by the father of
Miss Harris. The whole country was
aroused and an armed posse ot a hun
dred men were Immediately scouring
the country- The negro was capturod
by Marshal Lofton and three deputies
and he confessed the crime. He was
landed safely In Jail before tho posse
knew of his capture. There Is still a
great deal of excitement here over the
affair.

Charleston, S. C., Juno 26.—After
having been twice tried at the present
term of court for tho murder of Jo
seph Rivers, claiming that he thought
he was a highwayman, W. S. SchlfT-
bauer, of Pittsburg, Pa., was acquitted
last night. When the verdict was ren
dered both Sohlffhauer and Ills wife,
who had come to attend the trial,
fainted and had to be carried from the
court room.
After a lengthy trial, In which nu
merous witnesses were heard. Record
er Broyles Tuesday morning dismissed
tho case of Charlie Jones, who had
ben arrested by detectives on the
charge of running a disorderly house.
Jones declared that since he prom
ised soveral months ago to quit gam
bling and "his other meanness," he has
kept his word and has been trying to
live right. Ho frankly told the re
corder that ho had made his money
gambling and had saved It, but In
sisted he was not gambling now and
had no connection with the house In
Jenkins street.
Attorney Tom Felder, who. with At
torney Eugene Thomas, represented
Jones, pleaded that the young man be
given a chance to reform, stating hs
believed Jones waa trying to do right.
He said ho had been asked to represent
Jones by a number of citizens of the
city, who had become Interested In the
young man.

derson has begun habeas corpus pro
ceeding* for the recovery of hls wife
of a few hour*, who wns taken from

father of the bride, D. E. Morgan. The
matrimonial ambition* of the young
couple had been forcibly vetoed by tho
father, but while he was nerving on
the Jury Anderson and MI** Morgan
went to a minister and were married.
