Macon, Ga., June 27.—Judging from
the remarks made yesterday by citi
zens of South and East Macon, the
antl-annexatlonists In those suburbs
are opposed to having an annexation
election until after the mayoralty cam
paign Is over. The reason that they
give is that they do not care to have
the question used as a “tool In the
hands of the politicians."
It Is a question whether this question
of annexation has not already figured
political capital.
The‘power plant In the Federal prison Is
one of the finest In the country. The ex
amination of niipllcniits will be along the
line of knowledge about this class of ma
chinery nnd experience In operating It.
It Is essential to know something about
refrigerating machinery. The position Is

Dure's resolution railing for the appro

shape, was turned over to the finance
committee of the city council, and what
this committee believes best will be
stnted next week.
Alderman Dure placed the council
notice last week that he Intended to ask
for the sum of $2,GOO to begin the great
ly needed work anil therefore his reso
lution caused no surprise.

Macon, Ga., June 27.—By accepting
the report of the finance committee of
the city council, the request of the
board of health for $2,500 with which
to purchase additional inules and carts,
the aldermnnlc board took adverse ac
tlon. and unless the board makes an
other request it Is likely that the pres
ent carts and inules will have to do the
work this year.

ber of friends and relatives attended
the funeral services of the late Mrs.
Ruth Northrop, held yesterday even
ing from St. Pauls church, Rev. J. B.
Lawrence, of Americus, officiating. The
Interment was made In Rose Hill ceme
tery. The floral offerings sent by
friends were many nnd beautiful.
Rev. John M. Northrop, son of Mrs.
Ruth Northrop, arrived in the city yes
terday morning from Savannah, where
he had Just learned of his mother’s
death.

Macon, Ga., June 27.—Miss Willie
Hill, the 14-year-old daughter of Mr.
nnd Mrs. W. E. Hill, died at the home
of her parents, on Forsyth road, near
Bass church. She had been sick about
two weeks with typhoid fever. The fu
neral services were held this morning
at 9 o’clock, from Bass church. Rev.
R. F. Griffith officiating. The Inter
merit was made In the church yard.
SOUTH MACON PEOPLE
WANT AN ELECTION.

Macon, Ga., June 27.—South Macon
people who became Interested In tho
annexation movement some two months
ago have by no means allowed the Issue
to “simmer down.” In fact, South Ma
con has been turning tho questlop over
nnd over and has arrived nt the con
clusion that* it Is now time to act.
Whether an election will be called
under the way provided by the city
charter of Macon or by the way pro
vided for In the Fielder bill remains to
be seen. Steps are now being taken to
push forwurd the plans.
Suit Grows Out of Tragedy.

Macon, Ga., June 27.—A suit which
follows the killing of W. P. Harrell, of
Rastnmn, On., by Mrs. Hallle Freeney,
now confined In the Bibb county Jail,
has been filed In tho superior court hero
by H. J. J. Harrell, administrator. Tho
suit Is against the Security Life and
Annuity Company nnd Is bnsed upon a
double benefit clause. The policy was
for $6,000.

New York, June 27.—While a trolley
tar was speeding over Brooklyn bridge
Inst night a man's body shot through
a window In the car nnd fell in the
aisle. The passengers of the car were
badly frightened. The conductor, after
an examination, found that the man
was dead.
The bridge police think the man at
tempted to commit suicide by throw
ing himself from the promenade above
Into the roadway In fiwt of the car,
but misjudged the speed of the car
and landed against its side, falling
through an open window.

of Mllledgevllle Is preparing for a big
celebration of the Glorious Fourth,
something after the order of those
great occasions which signalized the
national birthday, when this city was
the capital of the state, In the two de
cades preceding the war.
The project originated with Dr. E. A.
Tlgner, who Is one uf the city’s most
progressive and enterprising citizens.
The program Is as follows:

Ashland, Ky., Juno 27.—John Adams,
the wealthy cattle dealer of Pike
county, who has been for years con
nected with tho Wellman faction In
the fued troubles In that county, was
ambushed by two men while passing a
dump of bushes on the Esau Moore
place, and shot, probably fatally. His
assailants are not positively known by
any one save the wounded man, and
he refuses to divulgo their names, say
ing he will live "to get them both.’’

fell here In a cloudburst at 1 o'clock

WOMAN JUMPS INTO HOLE

Peoria, 111., June 27.—A determined
woman, who objected to a gang of em
ployees from a telephone company
placing a pole In front of her home,
Jumped Into the excavation and re
mained there until hauled out by the
police.
She was Mrs. David Goldberg, of
8outh Adams street, and she attracted
more attention than a circus parade
during the two hours that she resolute
ly held her place. The workmen plead
ed with her In vain and us a last resort
called the police.
The presence of six stalwart blue
coats did not daunt her nnd It was only
when they fastened a rope around her
waist and pulled her out of the hole by
force that she came up.
COTTON OIL COURSE
IS PUNNED FOR TECH
Realizing the necessity and value of
physical properties of cotton seed oil
and the uses to which It may be put,
Hon. Joseph D. Boyd, of Spalding
county, will introduce a bill at tht
coming session of the legislature to ap
propriate $10,000 for the purpose of
establishing such a course at the Geor
gia School of Technology.
According to the bill students are to
be educated In refining crude cotton
seed oil, and In making all grades nf
edible oils, principally known as prime,
summer, yellow, winter, white oil,
cooking oils, salad oil and compounds
of such oils us are now sold on the
markets.
Tl>e proposed appropriation Is con
ditioned upon the friends of the school
contributing a like amount, and the
whole sum Is to be expended under the
supervision of the board of trustees or
the Technological School.
