The attraction for next week by the
George Fawcett Company, at the
Grand opera house, will be the stirring
drama, "Soldlere of Fortune." The book,
by Richard Harding Davis, created a
furore when It was first placed before
the reading public. The stage version
Is by Augustus Thomas, the well-
known writer of typical American
plays, among them "Alabama," "Ari
zona," "In Mlzsourl," and others. The
story Is one of adventure,, and the cen
tral figure Is a man of action. The
scenes are laid among the tron mines
of the republic of Olancho, South
America, and afford excellent oppor
tunities for the abilities of the scenic
artist.
Those who admire exquisite gowning
on the stage will be gratified this week,
for although there are but three ladles
In the cast, the originality and magnlfl
cence of the costumes will make up
for the lack of feminine members.
Miss Phyllis Sherwood, as Hope Lang,
ham, the plucky heroine, will wear
several costumes of the sort every girl
wants and should have, and the clever
woman will get some Ideas for her
summer wardrobe.
Regan Hughston will play the part of
Robert Clay, who, notwithstanding the
tremendous excitement of an uprising
among the natives, finds the chance to
fall In love with the daughter of his
employer, the vivacious Hope Long-
ham. Miss Sherwood will be seen as
Hope, for whom the revolution has no
horrors. The cast Is long and the en
tire company will appear.
The other members of the east will
be: DeWitt Jennings, as MacWllllams
Brandon Hurst, os Captain Stuart
Frank Craven, as Ted Langham; Burr
Caruth, as Langham: Charles E. Inslee,
as Captain Burke; Allen Fawcett, as
Mr. King; George Schrader, as Gen
eral Mendoza, and Brigham Royce, as
President Alvarez.
There will be a special matinee on
the Fourth of July.

COMES NEXT TO CASINO;
A COMED\ WITH COMEDY
Rattling Good Show
Promised For
Ponce.
The Atlantans -who like a clean,
wholesome comedy and good, honest,
straightforward acting and stay away
from "A' Stronger In Town," at the
Casino next week, will miss a rare
treat. Mr. Beamish, the star of this
excellent production. Is well remember
ed for his excellent work with the Hoyt
comedies. "A Stranger In Town” is a
rapid-fire, entertaining, wholesome
farce, and Is played with the ginger and
gravity that such pieces need to con
vulse an audience,
Mr. Beamish, In the role of Bartley
Swift, the young husband who under,
takes to lie out of a previous love af
fair to his wife, results In a tangle that
only happens In farces, and he Is
master of the art of acting a scream
ingly funny situation In the serious,
half-desperate manner that Is tho life
of such a situation. His methods of
acting are clear-cut and sincere, and
he possesses a clean, likeable person
ality that, carries over the footlights
Immediately. He has a striking per
sonallty, keen Intelligence, and If hi
sticks to the Ideals In his art, will
make a name for hlmsett with the the
atergoers of the country.
The supporting company Is one of
unusual excellence. Miss Rita Knight,
ns Nancy Noyes, contributes a charm
ing characterization In addition to
beauty. She Is a clever actress and
carries her part through with line re
serve.

00000000000000090000000000
White City, with Us various attrac
tions and amusements, Its high alti
tude, always Inviting cool breezes, and
Its shady retreats, harboring benches
spread In confusion over tho park, Is
proving a populnr resort for summer
worn and wearied Atlantans these
slow, dull days.
President Chosewood, It seems, bund
ed better than he knew when he trans.
formed Little Switzerland, a tract of
eighteen acres of land. Into White City,
tract of eighteen acres of fun and
recreation.
He haa realized this fact, and the
result Is that not only has he secured
a large number of attractions for next
season, but circumstances and the eon.
tlnued good patronage of the pleusure-
Invlng public have caused him to send
the hurry call for new attractions to
be erected Immediately.
Three new attractions are now on
the way. The mirrors and other par
aphernalia for the fun factory, where
cne can see himself In all sites and
shapes, will be In Atlanta the drat of
next week.
will be the large skating rink
Its wilderness of electric lights, ....
broad, sweeping floor and Its acres of
seats.
The management has provided two
Prizes for the best dressed man and the
best dressed lady skater on skates that
night. The only restriction placed about
the skaters Is that no dress will be
eligible to compete fort he prizes, which
are In gold, except those In the na
tional colors of red, white and blue.
This applies to the gentlemen skaters
as well as the ladles.
Following the announcement of this
proposed skating carnival In The Geor
gian on last Saturday, the costumers of
the city have been besieged to creaje
new and novel dresses for this carni
val. There will be scores of "Uncle
Sams," "Miss Columbia*,” "Goddesses
of Liberty," marines, Jackies and other
national figures.
The Judges will not be known to any
one, but will be chosen from those who
are competent to Judge dresses as well
as graceful skaters. There are three
skating sessions dally, 11 to 1 o'clock,
3:30 to 6 o'clock and 8 to II o'clock,
with music at each session. There will
be the great "inaugural carnival'
