The sailing was easy, helped by a sensational ad vance at Parts and most sensational threshing returns from the southwest, as well as deteriorating crops ln the spring wheat country. France, Ger many and Liverpool bought wheat here moderatoly. The German and Hunga rian threshing returns were quite bad. Offerings of wheat were Itght most of the day, with the local crowd reinstat ing some of the wheat sold Saturday. The supply on ocean passage decreased 8,000,000 bushels last week. Amerlcim ■locks were well up In the early Lon don trading and the opening here was more animated and lively than any wit nessed for a long time past. Union Padflc, which was a leader of the movement, wa* up two point* and other* of the active stocks advanc'd a point. There wa* special strength In the Copper shares, and the Steel stock* showed an unwonted amount of activity on report* that the director* of the company at their meeting this month will raise the dividend on the common stock. Interest, so far a* the general market waa concerned, was centered on how far last week’s rise had <le- pended on the retirement of a short In- tsrest and what would happen with thl* element of support removed. In professional circle* the disposition waa to test the stablltly of technical condi tion* by selling very freely at the high er price* thlwinornlng. Under this real ising, the market during the early hours moved with a good deal of Irregularity, but In the main the ttocks were well taken at very little recession.
